Ability Links NSW Briefing Presentation 2014 1 • Welcome – Alanna Julian • Overview of Ability Links NSW • Ability Links NSW Evaluation • Ability Link NSW In Practice • Introducing The St Vincent de Paul AGENDA Society Linkers • Questions and Answers • Close 2 Overview of Ability Links NSW • A new way to support people with disability, their families and carers • Purpose is to help people with disability aged 9 – 64 years to access the community and mainstream services • $27.9m (2013/14 figures) committed for 248 Ability Links Coordinators (referred to as Linkers), including 27 Aboriginal identified positions • Program commenced across NSW on 1 July 2014 3 Who can access Ability Links NSW? • Ability Links seeks to support people who are not traditionally known to the disability service system • Anyone can contact their local Linker – the Linker does not need proof of diagnosis or a referral • No assessment or eligibility criteria • Not time-limited 4 Coordinators (Linkers) Linkers will have 3 main roles 1. Work alongside people with disability, their families and carers. 2. Assist individuals to achieve their goals 3. Work alongside mainstream services, Aboriginal services and community. How does Ability Links NSW differ from Case Management? Aims to: - provide a locally based first point of contact in local community to improve access and engagement; - support and encourage participants to reach their goals.
