SEMINARIO DIDATTICO-SCIENTIFICO MOLECULAR/HYBRID MICRO-NANOTECHNOLOGIES FOR PHOTONIC AND BIO APPLICATIONS Giuseppe GIGLI National Nanotechnology Laboratory (NNL), CNR-INFM Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell’Innovazione, Università del Salento Venerdì 5 giugno - ore 11:30 Facoltà di Ingegneria - Via Eudossiana - Aula del Chiostro ABSTRACT - Despite the growing interest in organic and hybrid materials based on colloidal nanocrystals, related to their excellent properties in terms of colour tuning, flexibility and low cost of fabrication, the persisting limit for their full exploitation in advanced devices stands in the lack of well established lithographic and device fabrication techniques suitable for this class of materials. Conventional lithographic technologies, such as photolithography and electron beam lithography, are not in fact compatible with soft and soluble molecular materials and standard deposition techniques are not suitable for novel hybrid nanocomposites. This prevents the possibility to realize complex devices and nanostructures able to increase device performances. Thus, a step forward for organic/hybrid opto-electronics necessarily passes through the development of a suitable technology for high resolution patterning and material deposition. In this lecture recent results obtained in the National Nanotechnology Laboratory of CNR-INFM for the fabrication of organic and hybrid devices for photonic and bio applications will be presented. CV - Giuseppe Gigli was born in Rome, the 4th of November, 1970. He took the Degree in Physics cum laude at the University of Rome (IT) “La Sapienza” in 1996 and the PhD in Physics in 1999 at the University of Lecce (IT). Since 2001 he is Lecturer in Physics in the Engineering Faculty of the University of Lecce, where he is Associate Professor since 2005. Giuseppe Gigli is the Coordinator of the Organics Division in the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (NNL) of CNR and national coordinator of the CNR research line “Nanotechnology for molecular materials”. His main research activities involve: Study of Structural and Optical properties of Molecular Materials, plastic optoelectronic Devices such as OLEDs, Solar Cells and lasers, Soft lithography, Nanotechnology of Molecular Materials and Biofactories for functional materials. He is author of more than 140 publications on International Journals with more than 1700 citations, several chapters in scientific books, 15 International and Italian patents and more than 50 Invited talks in International Conferences. He is and has been coordinators of several research projects funded by Italian Ministery of University and Research (MUR-Prin, FIRB), he is Unit coordinator of European project FP6 IP OLLA, and responsible of several industrial project with italian and international companies (ST-microelectronics, FIAMM, Teuco, IGuzzini, Leuci, Agilent, Finmeccanica-Sirio Panel, Tozzi Holding). Giuseppe Gigli is co-founder and president of a research Spin-off, Mediteknology s.r.l., aiming at the developing of new diagnostic tools for Medicine.
