2014 Winter House League
Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to the 2014 Winter House League at the Middletown Ice World.
Today, we are proud to announce the U14 Division. The theme of the U14 Division this season
is defunct NHL teams. Our 4 teams have taken shape from some of most classic teams in NHL
history:
The Whalers: From 1979 to 1997 the Hartford Whalers represented Connecticut in the NHL. In
1997 the Whalers relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina and became the Carolina Hurricanes.
Connecticut has been yearning for the Whale ever since. So much so, that New York Rangers
affiliate Hartford Wolfpack became the Connecticut Whale for three years. Hall of Famers such
as Paul Coffey, Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Ron Francis, and Brendan Shanahan all called the
Whale home during their careers. The Whalers won conference championships in the ‘72-‘73
and ‘77-’78 seasons.
The Nordiques: The Quebec Nordiques were the last NHL team to represent the Canadian city
of Quebec. In existence from 1972-1995 the Nordiques relocated to become one of the NHL’s
strongest franchises throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Colorado Avalanche. Quebec
was home to Hall of Famers Guy Lafleur, Joe Sakic, Peter Stastny, and Mats Sundin.
The Thrashers: The Atlanta Thrashers is the youngest franchise in this group as they were
founded in 1999. The Thrashers never found much success in the NHL and are most famous for
being home to super stars Marian Hossa and Ilya Kovalchuk. In 2011 the Thrashers relocated to
Winnipeg to become the Jets. Winnepeg has been missing the NHL since the former Jets
organization left for sunny Phoenix.
The North Stars: The Minnesota North Stars represented the hockey crazy state of Minnesota
from 1967-1993. Even though they reached the NHL Playoffs 17 times and the Stanley Cup
finals twice, the North Stars never won a cup. In 1993 they relocated and became the Dallas
Stars. The Dallas Stars won the Stanley Cup in 1999. The NHL returned to Minnesota in 2000
with the Minnesota Wild.

* Goalies will rotate amongst the
teams. Records/statistics will be kept
for each individual goalie, and that
will determine where the goalie will
play for the playoffs.
Game Rules/Procedures:
U14 is a full contact league. Misconduct penalties will be assessed for dangerous hits: Contact to
Head, Charging, Hit from behind, and boarding
2 Periods of 12 Minute stop time
3rd period will be 15 minute run time period - *Clock will stop in the final 2 minutes of the 3rd.
Please show up no later than 15 Minutes prior to a game.
If you are going to miss a game, please let the Coach of your team know – Coaches will then
contact Rocky Romanella about their missing players.
