OMI TRAVEL AND REIMBURSEMENT GUIDELINES
FOR OBSERVERS PER JULY 1, 2014
The regions served are divided into Areas I-VI per the table below.
AREA I
Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania-West (Timisoara, Arad, Cluj),
Slovakia, Slovenia, Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and other Western European
countries.
Observers from the countries of Area I will not be reimbursed for any travel expenses.
AREA II
Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo), Romania-East (Bucharest, Constanta, Iasi, Sibiu and
others), Serbia (Belgrade), Ukraine-West (Lviv).
Observers from Area II should make their own travel arrangements and will be reimbursed
up to a maximum of €200 upon arrival in Austria.
Observers must pay for all domestic travel and transportation in Austria. There is no
reimbursement.
AREA III
Albania (Tirana), Armenia (Yerevan), Belarus (Minsk), Bulgaria (Sofia, Varna), Kosovo
(Pristine), Lithuania (Vilnius), Macedonia (Skopje), Moldova (Chisinau), Montenegro
(Podgorica), Russia-West (Krasnodar, Moscow, Rostov, St. Petersburg), Ukraine-East
(Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkov, Kiev).
The OMI travel administration team will book and cover the ticket on Austrian Airlines (AUA)
for the above-mentioned cities. AUA tickets will be issued electronically as an E-ticket (ETIX).
Please check, if you can find an airplane ticket to Austria for less than €400. If successful, you
can make your own travel arrangements. Observers from cities in Area III, who make their
own travel arrangements, will be reimbursed up to a maximum of €400 upon arrival in
Austria.
The following countries/cities are included in Area III, but not served by Austrian Airlines:
Azerbaijan (Baku), Estonia (Tallinn), Georgia (Tbilisi) and Latvia (Riga): Observers should
make their own travel arrangements and will be reimbursed up to a maximum of €400 upon
arrival in Austria.
Observers must pay all domestic travel and transportation in Austria. There is no
reimbursement.
AREA IV
Kazakhstan-North
Uzbekistan.
(Astana),
Russia-East
(Novosibirsk,
Vladivostok,
etc.),
Tajikistan,
The OMI travel administration team will book and cover tickets from Kazakhstan-North
(Astana) and Russia-East from the nearest airport in the region that is served by Austrian
Airlines (AUA). AUA tickets will be issued electronically as an E-ticket (ETIX).
Please check, if you can find an airplane ticket to Austria for less than €600. If successful, you
can make your own travel arrangements. Observers, who make their own travel
arrangements, will be reimbursed up to a maximum of €600 upon arrival in Austria.
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan: Observers should make their own travel arrangements and they
will be reimbursed up to a maximum of €600 upon arrival in Austria.
Observers must pay all domestic travel and transportation in Austria. There is no
reimbursement.

AREA V
Kazakhstan-South (Almaty), Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia
Since AUA does not serve Mongolia, Kazakhstan-South (Almaty) and Kyrgyzstan, Observers
should make their own travel arrangements and they will be reimbursed up to a maximum of
€650 upon arrival in Austria.
Observers must pay all domestic travel and transportation in Austria. There is no
reimbursement.
AREA VI
Tanzania
The OMI travel administration team will book and cover the airline ticket from Dar es Salaam
to Munich. For the organization of ground transportation from Munich to the city where the
Observership takes place, please contact your Observership Coordinator in Austria.
Ground transportation from Munich to Salzburg via an airport shuttle will be booked and
prepaid by the OMI travel administration team. If the observer does not take the shuttle,
he/she will NOT be reimbursed.
Travel to Dar es Salaam and visa expenses (fees, hotel, etc.) are covered up to a maximum of
€150 and will be reimbursed in Austria upon presentation of the relevant receipts.
Schengen visas for Tanzanians: please submit all the required documents to Ms. Ragini
Borhara ([email protected]) at the Belgian embassy in Dar es Salaam at least one
month before travelling. Your visa will be issued on the day you come to the Embassy.

Africa and other parts of the world
If your home country is not stated in Area I-VI, you are required to organize & cover your own travel
arrangements and expenses. Please contact your local coordinator for information on available stipends.
Observers from Mexico should contact our partner institution Alianza Médica para la Salud A.C. (AMSA)
(http://www.amsa.mx/contacto.html).
Travel by car will be reimbursed by € 8 per 100 km – irrespective of whether you belong to Area II, III, IV, or V.
Maximum Reimbursement: € 400.

If the Observership represents the 3 Observership month, observers must cover their own travel expenses.
AAF/OMI will provide accommodation, pocket money and health care insurance (for Non EU Citizens).
