AMALGAMATED TRANSIT UNION – LOCAL 1722
Executive Meeting Minutes: March 4th, 2014
Called to order: 18:15
Executive Roll call: Les,Al,Eric,Tremain,Petra,Darcy
ABSENT: Don
Darcy has been appointed to the board- Oath taken. Motion “to authorize honourarium” 4-0 carried
Guest: Larry Chu
(Very long discussion of this presentation) Larry Presented overall WCB explanation of appeals: The company’s
claims officer and the tactics she uses to appeal claims and ways she goes after our members injuries. Company
uses our medical history against us, which is not permissible, as our history has nothing to do with the present
injury unless our own individual doctor says it does. Company goes to websites and uses generic information
about the written injuries and submits in her appeals to WCB. The company represents general information about
the injury AS specific information about our member’s injuries. Speculating causes about the injury and submitting
it to WCB is not permissible, but it is being done and that is causing claims to be delayed and forcing us to appeal.
First is not submitting WCB papers within 3 days-illegal. Worker fills out the 6A form, then company fills out
whatever they want. They seem to choose not to send the paperwork in. WCB does have a fair practices office.
Considering next steps on how to address the company.
