Sound Barriers - Northwest Corridor (I-75/I

Sound Barriers
A Noise Impact Assessment was prepared to analyze the effects of highway traffic noise on communities within
the project limits. Sound barriers were evaluated as a way of reducing or eliminating noise impacts to the
affected public and were found to be feasible.
Forty-three (43) sound barriers were found to be feasible and reasonable to reduce noise impacts.
Sound barriers are constructed within Georgia DOT right-of-way, not on private property.
The maximum height of a noise wall is 30 feet.
Sound barriers must provide at least a 5 decibel reduction for the locations affected by noise impacts.
The proposed sound barriers would be constructed of a light-weight concrete material with a textured
finish, as shown in the photo below.
The sound barriers may also be earthen berms or combination berm/wall systems.
Georgia DOT is seeking input from individuals who benefit from the construction of sound barriers.
The sound barriers will not be constructed if a majority of the benefited public does not want the sound
barrier.
Please provide your vote on the sound barriers by completing the voting ballot available at this meeting.
