Compliance - DCPC
The Driver’s Certificate of Professional Competence
As a driver of a commercial vehicle over 3.5T it is your responsibility to ensure that you hold the required qualification by
SEPTEMBER 2014
It will be an offence to drive a commercial vehicle on the road after 10th September 2014 without the DCPC qualification
ARE YOU READY ? – HAVE YOU QUALIFIED ? – WILL YOU MAKE IT BY SEPTEMBER ?
IF NOT WHY NOT?
The Institute of Transport Administration – IoTA – Can Help You Get There
Failure to obtain your DCPC Qualification by September 2014, could result in both an ‘on-the-spot’ fixed penalty fine
AND the suspension of a vocational driver’s licence.
And for the commercial vehicle ‘Operator’ there will be fines, and however, a chance for the specific Operator to enjoy,
at their pleasure, an official meeting with their local Traffic Commissioner who will request an explanation from them,
as to why their firm have permitted an “unqualified driver” to work for them.

Please note: that the requirement for all drivers to maintain a Driver’s CPC qualification is an on-going and a statutory
requirement under existing legislation.
Such as: the requirement for drivers to undertake 35 hours of Periodic Training, “over each and every five year period”,
is an on-going and continuous process.
Having completed the drivers who had “Acquired Rights”, the industry must take into account those new drivers who
passed their DriverCPC Initial tests after September 2009. (September 2008 for PCV drivers).
The Institute must therefore recommend that all Operators should now make those necessary arrangements, and make
provision for a minimum of one-day DriverCPC (per annum) courses for each (and every) one of their Drivers, - rather
than waiting for the end of the next period, which will now be in September 2019.
