Week of Nov. 9, 2014 Greetings from Father Sam Well! The moth of November has begun and we know here in Manitoba old man winter can arrive at any time! We prepare ourselves by making sure the snow-blower works, our winter boots are polished and protected against moisture our gloves and scarfs are found and the furnace is in good working order. This year the season of Advent begins on Sunday, November 30th. On that Sunday, we begin a new worship year and the main Gospel is the Gospel of Mark. Mark was the first Gospel written between 65-70 CE. Mark was a second generation Christian possibly a follower of St. Peter and he is called John Mark in the Acts of the Apostles. The Gospel of Mark is the shortest of the four Gospels and can be read in one sitting. The Gospel answers two fundamental questions: Who is this Jesus called the Christ? And what does it mean to be His disciple? During this year, we will listen to Mark, open his Gospel and celebrate our Faith. Catechism News- Chidren’s Christmas Party December 21, 2014 Free event. GENERAL MEETING Development and Peace Development and Peace is launching its new fall education and awareness campaign “Sow Much Love”. The goal of the campaign is to educate Canadians about the role of family farmers as stewards of the world’s seeds, and to call on Canadians to take action to support the rights of farmers in the face of the growing threat of corporate control of seeds. Today, small family farmers feed up to 80% of the population in the global south, but their way of life is being threatened. One of those threats is access to seeds. This fall, Development and Peace continues to answer the call of Pope Francis to fight the global scandal of hunger by supporting small family farmers in their struggle to maintain the world’s seed biodiversity. Seeds are the heritage of family farmers and peasants, who preserve them to feed their families, their communities, and the world. However, seeds are increasingly being controlled and privatized by multinational companies. Without access to seeds, the way of life of small family farmers and peasants is threatened. Under the slogan “Sow Much Love”, we are inviting you to join our fall action campaign to educate Canadians about the role of family farmers as stewards of the world’s seeds, and to take action to support the right of farmers to use, conserve, exchange, and save these seeds, which feed the world. Over the next several weeks we invite you to visit our D & P table set up at the back of the church and to consider signing the petition asking our Federal Government to protect the inherent rights of farmers to save, reuse and share seeds as they have done for thousands of years. For more information on this issue check the D&P website at www.devp.org The C.W.L. general meeting will be held on Monday, November 9, 2014 @ 7:00 pm.
