WedgeCheck

Phantom and Software for
Wedge Angle Determination
of dynamic wedges
WedgeCheckä
Application
TM
WedgeCheck
enables the determination of
wedge angles of dynamic (virtual) and
mechanical wedges in high energy photon
beams as used in radiation therapy. It is very
easy to handle and allows to perform the
verification measurements in a fast and reliable
way.
TM
The WedgeCheck system consists of a solid
acrylic phantom and a special software. The
phantom can be attached to the linear
accelerator's accessory tray using the
appropriate adapter plate. This allows fast and
precise positioning of the phantom at any
gantry angle. Two ionization chambers can be
inserted into the appropriate holes of the
phantom.
TM
is best used with a dual
WedgeCheck
channel dosemeter (like MULTIDOS or
WedgeCheck is a registered trademark of PTW-Freiburg
TANDEM) because the dose values from two
ionization chambers are necessary for the
wedge angle determination.
TM
Prior to the first operation of WedgeCheck
the radiation quality is determined once for
each photon energy used.
For mechanical wedges the beam quality is
measured by taking dose values for each
wedge at 10 and 20 cm depth in water. For
dynamic wedges the measurement is
performed in an open field.
The wedge angle determined with the
TM
system coincides with an
WedgeCheck
accuracy of ±1% with the results obtained in
accordance with IEC 60976.
Software WedgeAngleTM
TM
TM
WedgeAngle is a useful software tool included with WedgeCheck . This easy to use Windows
TM
program automatically calculates wedge angles from WedgeCheck dose values. The dose values
may be keyed in or they are automatically recorded via the serial interface of the PTW dual channel
dosemeter MULTIDOS or TANDEM.

Mount the WedgeCheck phantom to the accelerator's accessory tray.
Insert two ionization chambers to the phantom's outer measuring positions at 87mm depth.
Adjust a field of 20 cm x 20 cm and prepare the accelerator for an irradiation.
Irradiate the phantom with a typical treatment dose of 100 MU approx..
TM
In th eprogram WedgeAngle select the beam quality used and type in the two dose values to
obtain the wedge angle (RS232 link is possible for the PTW dual channel dosemeters MULTIDOS
or TANDEM).
