Reefer Technical Bulletin 15 January 2013 SC0001 StarCare Controlled Atmosphere (PTI) Preparation It is becoming more noticeable over time, an increase in the number of cases of elevated O2 levels during “live” shipment of StarCare units running in Controlled Atmosphere (CA) mode. This can be caused by different contributing factors allowing air from outside to enter the sealed space of the box increasing the O2 level above the predetermined set point. The leakage can be caused by an incorrectly fitted air curtain after loading the cargo. Air curtains are the largest source of air leakage if they are not fitted correctly or not at all in some cases. After assessing units with elevated O2 levels many have been found with other leakage points, which should have been picked up during PTI and CA preparation for receiving the cargo. Below are instructions which you must re-enforce with the shops carrying out StarCare CA PTI’s, which is a part of the manual inspection of the unit/s, which undergo CA PTI’s. • • • • • • • • • Check for structural damages Ensure floor drain plugs are secure and fitted tight. Make sure that all service hatches are in good condition and are fitted correctly ensuring all securing nuts are in place and are tight. Air ex damper must be closed and the two finger screw must be in place & properly tightened. Make sure the air ex. module is in good condition and is operational, ensuring valves are not restricted. (please see separate inspection procedure for air ex. module) Check drain hoses for damage. The vacuum pump has the correct level & clean oil and if needed is must be topped-up with the correct oil type, (FGC-32 or other similar oil). Ensure that all cables and vacuum hoses are intact and fitted correctly paying attention to where these may be trunked through bulk heads, make sure that these are sealed. After loading, to ensure that the correct air curtain is fitted (supplied by MCI) and that it is done so correctly. CENOPSEMR Areas highlighted in red need to be checked as above. Vacuum pump oil level indicator. For those StarCare units (Those with MMAU prefixes) being loaded with Controlled Atmosphere (CA) cargos it is imperative that they all have CA PTI’s successfully completed before any loading is carried out. During PTI it is also important to ensure that the date, time and unit ID are correctly logged in the controller. Attention should also be made toward the Software version the unit/s are running which should fall in line with that detailed on our web site. http://maerskline.apmoller.net/operations/CENOPS%20Inland,%20Terminals%20and%20Equipment/Eq uipment/Centre%20Equipment%20MNR/EMR%20Reefers/Reefer%20machinery%20software/Docume nts/Starcool%20software%20library/0349_v5.zip https://www.box.com/s/hbv3ofhj9910j0d7foo0 During the gate in inspection any units found with damages which may compromise the inner and outer carcass of the box; should be estimated accordingly and repaired. After which a Container Leak test needs to be performed. For details on this please refer to Star Cool Operating and service manual, Control Atmosphere. Also this manual gives further in formation with regards to the CA PTI and the requirements as listed above. Should anyone require any further information on this then please do not hesitate to contact your Local Star Cool field service Manager or us at Centre EMR [email protected] or [email protected]
