Annual costs are estimated at $3.5 billion to $10 billion, and the emotional and physical costs to patients are staggering, including lengthened hospital stays, readmission, and death. Experts estimate that up to 60 percent of SSIs are preventable. The Minnesota (MN) Slashing SSI bundle elements were carefully selected by a group of OR professionals and surgeons convened by Minnesota’s Collaborative Health Care Associated Infection Network (CHAIN). This webinar will help health care teams understand the rationale behind using evidence-based bundle guidelines to prevent SSIs. Physicians, non-physicians providers, nurses, administrators, risk managers, patient safety officers, and other health care professional staff will learn to: 1. Identify the elements of the MN Slashing SSI bundle 2. Describe the rationale behind the selection of bundle elements 3. Appreciate the leading role surgeons play in slashing SSI 4. Understand the shift in thinking required to make significant and timely progress in SSI prevention Speakers: • Jamie Bakkum-Gamez, MD, Board-certified gynecologic oncologist at the Mayo Clinic • Chad M.
