The Black Diamond Type 142B0 type Selective Shifting Tool is used to selectively downshift to
open ‘sliding sleeves’, otherwise known as ‘Sliding Side Doors’ in a completion tubing string to
allow communication between the tubing and the annulus normally during well kill operations.
It differs from the Black Diamond Type 42BO Positive Shifting Tool in that is fitted with an X line
selective mechanism the allows the operator to select which sliding sleeve to shift in a
production tubing string where more than one sliding sleeve is installed. The Black Diamond
Type 142BO Shifting Tool is tripped into the operating position by running through the Sliding
Sleeve and picking backup to trip the keys into the engage position and downward jarring opens
the Sliding Sleeve. This cleverly designed service tool will shift XA, RA, O, XD, A, C, CB, WB, L and
CM sliding sleeves but will not pass through a Type S nipple of the equivalent nominal
