Provisional data Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation increase 5.3% in September as compared with the same month of 2013 Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation (holiday dwellings, campsites and rural tourism accommodation) exceeded 10.4 millions in September, that is, 5.3% more than in the same month of 2013. Overnight stays of resident travellers increased by 7.7% while those of non-residents did so by 4.0%. The average stay stood at 5.5 overnights per traveller. During the first nine months of 2014, overnight stays increased by 3.9% as compared with the same period of the previous year. The weekend occupancy rate by bedplaces stood at 43.9%, with an increase of 4.4%. Non-resident overnight stays in holiday dwellings represented 75.7% of the total. The United Kingdom was the main country of origin, with more than 2.1 million overnight stays, 0.4% more than in September 2013. The following country of origin was Germany, with 920,421 overnight stays, that is, a 0.9% increase. Illes Balears registered the highest occupancy rate with 78.3% of the dwellings offered. By tourist areas, the island of Mallorca was the preferred destination, with 919,142 overnight stays. The island of Lanzarote registered the highest occupancy rate, with 85.0% of the dwellings offered. The tourist sites with the greatest number of overnight stays in September were San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Tías and Arona. 2 Campsites The overnight stays in tourist campsites registered an annual increase of 15.6% in September. Overnight stays of resident travellers increased by 16.8% and those of nonresident travellers did so by 14.3%. In September, 34.7% of the offered pitches were occupied, that is, 8.8% more. The weekend occupancy rate by pitch reached 36.6%, with an annual increase of 9.4%. 47.6% of the overnight stays in tourist campsites were by non-residents. Germany was the main country of origin, with 22.9% of the overnight stays by non-residents, 20.5% more than in September 2013. La Rioja was the Autonomous Community with the highest occupancy rate on campsites, with 60.1% of the pitches offered. By tourist areas, Costa Daurada was the preferred destination for camping, with 678,305 overnight stays. Costa Blanca reached the highest occupancy rate, with 59.5% of the pitches offered. The tourist sites with the highest number of overnight stays were Mont-Roig del Camp, Benidorm, and Cambrils. 3 Rural Tourism Accommodation Overnight stays in rural tourism accommodation presented an annual increase of 17.8% in September. Residents’ overnight stays increased by 16.0% while those of non-residents did so by 21.4%. Regarding rural tourism accommodation, 15.4% of the bedplaces were occupied, that is, a 16.7% increase as compared to September 2013. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 27.7%, with an increase of 14.9%. The tour operators and travel agencies rate, which carried the greatest weight in the weighting structure for this month (53.5%), increased by 5.4%. The Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) decreased by 0.7% in the annual rate. The normal rate, which had the greatest weight in the weighting structure for September (67.4%), decreased by 1.6%.
