-Research project general goal is to understand the processes that is causing a shift from
herbaceous to woody vegetation, focusing on the role of sediments. The three specific objectives
of this project were:
1. to use historical aerial imagery to detect historical changes in plant communities,
focusing on timing and rates of expansion of woody vegetation..
2. to use 137Cs in lakebed sediments to calculate rates of sedimentation
3. to use sediment physical and chemical traits to reveal sediment sources and nutrient
status
