Keeping Healthy through
the Holidays
As the holidays approach try these tips
from the American Heart Association
to help keep your diet on track:
Deck the Halls with Fruits and Vegetables!
Are decadent treats and meals putting
you on the naughty list this holiday
season?
Make
healthier
choices
and get
more
fruits and vegetables with these tips.
Snack on fruit or veggies before
the party. Have a high-fiber snack,
such as an apple, before heading
out. It’ll help you feel full and avoid
overeating.
Skip the cheese plate. Find the
fruit and veggies instead. Skip the
chips and creamy dip and try hummus with carrot sticks.
Swap veggies for crackers and
chips. Can’t resist your aunt’s famous party dip? Try dunking a crisp
celery stick instead of crackers or
chips.
Try fruit for dessert. If you want to
cap off your meal with a special
dessert, try baked apples or pears
stuffed with spices and nuts. The
natural flavors can satiate your
sweet tooth.
Roast your veggies. Make a batch
of seasoned, chopped winter vegetables at the beginning of the
week. You’ll have delicious options
to make quick side dishes, toss into
greens for a wintry salad or add to
soups, casseroles or pasta. The rich,
caramelized flavor will make you
want to reach for seconds.
Use juice. Instead of adding sugar
to mixed drinks, mix 100 percent
juice with water or use a freshly
squeezed lime, lemon or orange.
Mix juice with club soda for a festive, sparkling (and kid-friendly!)
beverage.

Kudos to Jessica Sinclair and the rest of the Patient Intake
team. We frequently receive nice comments from patients
about the Patient Intake team, and this one is no exception. Jessica assisted a patient’s daughter who called while
driving to ask for directions. The driver was lost and not familiar with the area. Jessica patiently “walked” the driver thru
the directions. The driver was very grateful, and upon arrival
to check in, she gushed about Jessica and the help she provided. Way to go Jessica!
Amy Bartley recently recertified as a COA! Great work Amy!
Congratulations!!!

A Person on the Path…
Clare Adams
Clare Adams has worked with Dr. Zink since
she joined CEI in 2008. Since starting at CEI,
Clare has married and had twin boys.
Emmett and
Gus
Since her sons, Augustus and Emmett, were
born Clare has put greater emphasis on food.
She is more aware of food labels. Clare wants
to be sure that she is fueling her children with
healthy foods. Clare finds that much of the
research surrounding nutrition needs to be
done by her. She rarely relies solely on the
package advertising. She also explores the nutrition label and the ingredient list to ensure
that the foods are what they say they are.
So after all that research, Clare spends a lot of
time preparing healthy food for her children.
There is a lot of chopping that needs to be
done when 2 two year olds are ready to eat!
Clare has found that the process of preparing
food for her children has actually made her
more aware of what she is eating. She has inadvertently reduced her own portion sizes and
eats more healthfully as well.
Being active and being outdoors has always
been important to Clare. Clare makes sure
that her sons get a lot of time outside too.
They often play outside or take walks. She and
her husband are looking forward to being able
to take the boys hiking and camping when
they’re a little older.
Having twins is a lifestyle change in itself!
Clare joked that one of the ways she stays
healthy is that she never sits down and she
never stops moving! Being able to maintain
her health and promote the health of her family has been important to Clare and it shows!
Clare, thank you for sharing your story!

Eating Healthy

Research indicates that eating
fruits and vegetables throughout the day isn’t simply good
for the body—it’s also beneficial for the mind. The more
fruits and vegetables people
consume (up to 7 portions), the
happier, more engaged, and
more creative they tend to be.

Why? Fruits and vegetables
contain vital nutrients that foster the production of dopamine,
a neurotransmitter that plays a
key role in the experience of
curiosity, motivation, and engagement. They also provide
antioxidants that minimize bodily inflammation, improve
memory, and enhance mood.

Which underscores an important point: If you’re serious
about achieving top workplace
performance, making intelligent
decisions about food is essential.

The good news is that contrary
to what many of us assume,
the trick to eating right is not
learning to resist temptation.
It’s making healthy eating the
easiest possible option.

New, improved mobile features now LIVE!
Understanding our mobile solutions
We have two mobile solutions - our mobile app and our mobile web browser (m.anthem.com).

Our app is available for download on iPhone and Android phones.

Our mobile web browser is accessed through a mobile phone’s Internet browser.
The obvious characteristic that distinguishes our mobile web browser from our standard website is that it is designed for the smaller handheld display and touch-screen interface.
All three member solutions, mobile app, mobile web browser, and our website accessed by a computer, have similarities and differences.
Enhancements made to our mobile web browser and app include:

Ability to register on our mobile web browser and app.
 Previously: Members had to use a computer to register on our website.
 Now: Members can register on their mobile app or mobile web browser.
Members use the same username and password on their phones or on a computer to log in.

Keep a safe and secure mobile health record at all times.
 Previously: Members had to use a computer to access their health record on our secure portal.
 Now: With very little set up, members can have a complete health record, via our app. They can share it
with doctors anytime.

Managing prescription benefits on our mobile web browser
 Previously: Members with our prescription coverage on their health plan could refill and renew drugs,
check an order, change to home delivery on our mobile app and by using a computer.
 Now: Members can access the information using our mobile web browser as well as our mobile app
and a computer.

you get rewarded $50.00 for each completed
As you know, CEI received RAC letters for retina
services performed in 2010 and 2011. The RACs
recently added oculoplastics to their target
list. The time period in which we have to respond to the RAC is very limited, and typically, a
response is very involved, thus time is of the essence. Therefore, IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
TO BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THESE LETTERS. IF
YOU RECEIVE ONE, PLEASE IMMEDIATELY FORWARD TO CLYDE BELL, IN ADMINISTRATION.
RAC stands for Recovery Audit Contractor.
These are people who are paid by the government to detect and correct past overpayments
Medicare made to medical providers. They review payments made as far back as 2010. If
overpayments are identified, the monies are
recouped almost immediately. The RACs are
paid on a contingency basis, which means they
are paid if they find overpayments. Therefore,
they are motivated to find overpayments. Most
health care providers would argue that they
chart and bill according to nationally accepted
guidelines. However, there are all sorts of medical issues and corresponding ways to chart and
bill, so some of the RAC findings are subject to
interpretation.
CEI is confident that our medical records and
corresponding bills have and continue to follow
accepted guidelines. We have highly experienced staff who work closely with our doctors,
we attend programs and subscribe to journals
that update us on acceptable billing practices,
and we frequently perform audits to ensure that
we are following proper charting and billing
practices. Nevertheless, we have now become a
RAC target. More than half of our patients have
Medicare, so we are a logical target. There is a
an updated copy of a letter we’ve received on
page 22. The letter came from CGI, the RAC for
our area. Please be on the lookout for any
letters looking like this!

Anthem Health Risk Assessment
Want an easy way to make money AND help CEI limit premium increases? Take Anthem’s Health Risk Assessment!
If you are enrolled in either the 2000/4000 or the 3000/6000 high deductible health plan, you have an easy
way to get a $50 gift card. Go to the Anthem website, log in (or register if this is the first time), click on
Health and Wellness, then on “take my HA now”. It takes about 10 minutes. Really. 10 minutes for $50?
That’s really EASY MONEY. And the site may help you get on (or back on) track to healthier living!
Anthem wants enrollees to take the Health Assessment (HA). In fact, they give us “credit” for employee participation when determining our rates each year. So, taking the Health Assessment not only gives you a gift
card and health information, it may also save on future renewals!
There are 275 employees enrolled in our high deductible plans. In 2013, 127 employees took the Anthem
Health Assessment. Imagine what kind of discount we’d get if all enrollees took the HA! Please go to the
site and take the Health Assessment today!
