AFI FASTRACK™ 2015 APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN APPLICATIONS CLOSE ON 15 JANUARY 2015 AFI FASTRACK™ is a young designer incubation initiative, founded in 2011 by African Fashion International (AFI). The programme aims to develop the new generation of fashion design talent. The goal of AFI FASTRACK™ is to help graduate designers heighten their creative thinking and tighten their aesthetics & points of view; the mission is also to guide these designers in bridging the gap between the creative and the commercial side of the fashion industry, becoming a catalyst for sustainable fashion businesses. PHASE O NE - - - Design graduates from across South Africa, submit an application to be part of the 2015 AFI FASTRACK™ programme. A selection panel of industry professionals selects between 10 and 15 semi-finalists. The semi-finalists showcase their capsule collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg, in March 2015, at the organiser’s cost. Between 3 and 6 finalists are selected to go to the next round (Phase Two) and are given an initial cash prize. Phase Two consists of work placement and experience opportunities, mentorship and training and finalists will need to be available for this phase of the programme from April – August 2015. Phase Three allows the finalists to showcase a final capsule collection, to national media, buyers and industry professionals – a winner will be selected and named the AFI Young Designer of the Year 2015, with a further cash prize. ADMISSION CRITERIA - Participant must be a 2014 Tertiary Graduate with a qualification in fashion design or similar. Participant must not be pursuing any further studies during 2015, without the express confirmation from the organisers. Participant must be a South African citizen or permanent resident between 16 to 30 years old. Participants must be available for February/March (Phase One semi-finalists), April to August (Phase Two finalists) and September to October for capsule collection development and showcase. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS A minimum of six (6) and a maximum of ten (10) designs must be submitted to the selection panel. You may wish to submit ready-to-wear designs in womenswear, menswear or a combination of the two. Designs must be presented on A4, single sided boards. Each design must include the following: - a sketch (full colour) - technical drawings (front and back views of each design) - fabric swatches for each design You may also wish to present a collection storyboard, including your inspiration and point-of-view. You can also submit photographs of each look in the form of a lookbook – this is not compulsory. SUBMISSION PROCESS You are required to send a hard copy (including swatches) as per the submission requirements to the AFI offices.
