A-PRO Control Surface Plug-in for Logic and GarageBand About This Plug-in A-PRO Control Surface Plug-in for Logic and GarageBand is plug-in software that lets you use the Roland MIDI Keyboard A-300PRO, A-500PRO and A-800PRO (which will be referred to simply as “the A-PRO” from here on) with Apple’s Logic or GarageBand music production software. Once you install this software on your Mac, you’ll be able to use the A-PRO as a convenient controller for Logic or GarageBand. Operating Requirements • Operating system: Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or later • Software version: Logic Pro/Express 8 or later, GarageBand ’09 or later Installation NOTE You must install the A-PRO driver before you install the A-PRO Control Surface Plug-in. 1. Quit Logic Pro/Express or GarageBand if it is running. 2. Double-click [APROControlSurfacePlugin.pkg] and install it as directed by the messages in the screen. MEMO After installation, you might see the following control surface setup dialog box when you start up Logic Pro/Express; simply close the dialog box. 1 A-PRO Control Surface Plug-in for Logic and GarageBand Uninstallation 1. Quit Logic Pro/Express or GarageBand if it is running. 2. Double-click [Uninstaller] and proceed with the uninstallation as directed by the messages in the screen. NOTE To uninstall completely, you can delete the following files located in the user folder under Library/Preferences/. These setup files contain settings for all connected control surfaces, so use caution when deleting them. The type of control obtained can be switched using controllers [B1]–[B4]. What is FLIP? Switching around the control of Pan and Volume is called “FLIP.” NOTE When the instrument left the factory, the HOLD function was assigned to the controller [L9]. However, you can change this assignment, and set it so the button functions as the controller [L9], or set it so it can be used to switch V-LINK on and off. Mixer window NOTE This is not shown in Logic 8. GarageBand 9 A-PRO Control Surface Plug-in for Logic and GarageBand Controlling the TIME BAR The TIME BAR is controlled using the [VALUE] knob. Turn the value knob clockwise, and the TIME BAR will advance; turn it counterclockwise, and the TIME BAR returns to an earlier time. NOTE In order to use the [VALUE] knob to control the TIME BAR, “ACT FUNCTION” must appear in the display. In order to get “ACT FUNCTION” to appear ] button or the [ ] in the display, you need to place the cursor at “USER ASSIGN” in the A-PRO’s display. If the track is not there, hold down the [SHIFT] button and press the [ you want to control in the Track Bank. ] button or the [ ] button to change the Track Bank, and place the track Can’t select multiple tracks Only one track can be selected on the A-PRO itself; multiple tracks cannot be selected simultaneously. If you want to select multiple tracks, hold down the SHIFT key on your Mac keyboard and use the mouse to click each of the desired tracks. Can’t control the intended function with controllers [L1]–[L8] Controllers [L1]–[L8] can function in a variety of different ways, and you can change their functions using the controller [B1] through controller [B4]. Whenever you’re unable to control the intended function, check the illumination status of the controller [B1] through controller [B4]. The functions of PAN and VOLUME are reversed Could FLIP be ON? If FLIP is ON, the functions of PAN and VOLUME will be reversed. To return to normal, press the controller [L9] again so FLIP is switched OFF. The track group changed farther than you expected (Logic Pro or Logic Express) Could the [Signal Flow Channel Strip] box be unchecked? In the Mixer window view menu, select the [Add a Signal Flow Channel Strip] item so that the track group will indicate the track that is actually selected. MEMO The channel strip located at the top of the Environment window can be controlled by displaying it in the Mixer window. For details on the Environment window, refer to the Logic Pro/Express documentation. No control obtained by pressing the A-PRO’s buttons (Logic Pro or Logic Express) • The control surface settings may have been changed. Open the control surface setup dialog box by choosing [Preferences] – [Control Surfaces] – [Setup], and then click the A-PRO icon. In the items shown in the upper left of the dialog box, make sure that the “Out Port” is set to “A-PRO” and “Input” is set to “A-PRO 2.” • Could the [ACT] button on the A-PRO be extinguished?
