SYNOPSIS
The awaited rematch between UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and No. 1
contender Chad Mendes will headline UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, October
25th. In their first meeting in January 2012, Aldo stopped then-unbeaten Mendes with
one second remaining in the first round. Since then, Mendes has won five straight, most
recently decisioning Nik Lentz in December 2013. Aldo, the only 145-pound champion
in UFC history, has added three more successful title defenses since the Mendes bout,
defeating Frankie Edgar, Chan Sung Jung and Ricardo Lamas. He looks to stamp a
finish on this rivalry once and for all. Plus, a clash of light heavyweight contenders will
co-headline, as Brazilian star Glover Teixeira faces off against Phil Davis.

La tan esperada revancha entre el campeón de peso pluma del UFC José Aldo y
el retador núm. 1 Chad Mendes encabezará el evento UFC 179 en Río de Janeiro
el sábado 25 de octubre. En su primer encuentro en enero de 2012, Aldo detuvo
al invicto Mendes cuando faltaba un segundo para que terminara el primer
asalto. Desde entonces, Mendes ha ganado cinco consecutivas, la más reciente
por decisión ante Nik Lentz en diciembre de 2013. Aldo, el único campeón de
las 145 libras en la historia del UFC, ha defendido su título con éxito tres veces
desde el combate con Mendes, derrotando a Frankie Edgar, Chan Sung Jung y

Le combat revanche tant attendu entre le champion poids plume de l’UFC, Jose
Aldo, et le premier aspirant, Chad Mendes, sera à l’affiche de l’événement UFC
179 à Rio de Janeiro le samedi 25 octobre. Lors de leur première rencontre en
janvier 2012, Aldo avait freiné les ardeurs de Mendes – qui était alors invaincu
– alors qu’il ne restait qu’une seule seconde au premier round. Depuis, Mendes
a remporté cinq combats consécutifs, dont un récent gain par décision sur Nik
Lentz en décembre 2013. Aldo, le seul champion des 145 livres de l’histoire de
l’UFC, a depuis défendu son titre à trois reprises, ayant vaincu Frankie Edgar,
Chan Sung Jung et Ricardo Lamas. Il espère maintenant mettre un point final
à cette rivalité une bonne fois pour toutes. De plus, une confrontation chez
les poids mi-lourds sera présentée en combat co-principal alors que la star
