MAYOR TO RECEIVE COMMUNITY INNOVATOR
AWARD FROM ERIE NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE
The immigrant-serving nonprofit organization will recognize Mayor Emanuel at its annual awards dinner
February 2, 2015 (CHICAGO)—Erie Neighborhood House will honor Mayor Rahm Emanuel with the
social service agency’s Community Innovator Award at its annual awards dinner on Thursday, March 5.
“Mayor Emanuel has served as an ally on many issues that are critically important to the families we
serve,” said Erie Neighborhood House executive director Celena Roldán-Moreno, “and we look forward to
honoring him as we celebrate Erie House’s 145th year of service to the community this spring.”
WHAT: “Future of Promise ~ Futuro de Promesa” — the annual awards dinner for Erie Neighborhood
House, a historic settlement house organization serving a predominately Latino population
WHEN: Thursday, March 5th, 5:30 p.m.
WHERE: Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E Wacker Dr, Chicago IL 60601
Roldán-Moreno cited the mayor’s efforts to ensure high-quality childcare for families in Chicago, his
partnership with grassroots organizations to provide assistance to unaccompanied minors fleeing
violence and instability in Central America and the city’s Office of New Americans citizenship initiative
among the contributing factors for selecting the mayor as recipient for the honor.
Emanuel joins Achievement Asset Management CIO Joseph Scoby, PNC Illinois president Scott
Swanson and City Treasurer Kurt Summers as award recipients at the event, which serves as a
significant fundraiser for the nonprofit organization that operates in the city’s West Town, Humboldt Park
and Little Village neighborhoods.
“We are regularly overwhelmed by the generosity shown by corporate foundations and private donors at
our annual awards dinner,” Roldán-Moreno said. “It renews our hope for a more just, inclusive society
when community partners affirm the work we are doing to empower families with the education, resources
and opportunities they need in order to thrive, and, in turn, invest in the wellbeing of their neighborhoods.”
The awards dinner will also highlight the agency’s childcare program, which serves roughly 200 working
families in the Latino community. Sarah Rios, a single working mother whose three children are enrolled
in Erie House programs and who has been an outspoken voice in advocacy efforts led by the
organization, will serve as keynote speaker for the event.
