January 29 - 2015 Port Phillip Bay: Western Port: MORNINGTON TOORADIN Staff member Garry snapped this big school of Salmon feeding off Mornington during the week. If you look closely, there is a patch of fish just to the left of it which Garry reports were bigger fish, possibly Kingfish. Charlie Murphy caught this 44cm King George Whiting in 14m of water out from Tooradin. Finding the deeper water can prove successful if you are looking for bigger fish. MIDDLE SPIT Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Charters has been putting his clients onto some beautiful King George Whiting in Western Port this week. Berley has been the key and Pipi, Mussel and Squid have been best baits. MT MARTHA Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters and clients have been enjoying some great squid fishing off Mt Martha this week. Red foil jigs have been working well under overcast conditions. HASTINGS Staff member Scott Harper and good customer Peter Vink fished off Hastings in search of squid on Monday. The boys managed a nice bag using IKA jigs in size 3.0. MCAFFIES REEF SWAN BAY Grant Lawson took his son, Bailey and Uncle Peter out off Swan Bay during the week. Grant reports that not a lot was happening, but young Bailey was stoked with his first Gummy Shark. PORTARLINGTON Laura and Amelia headed out off Portarlington with their dad on Monday in search of some King George Whiting. After a few moves, they finally found a good school of fish and almost managed their bag before they pulled anchor and targeted some Calamari. The girls managed 6 squid and headed home very happy! Around the State: After dusting up the squid, Scott and Peter headed south to Mcaffies Reef in search of some Whiting. The boys weren’t disappointed landing 16 whiting to 40cm, and found some busting schools of Salmon which fell victim to the Arma Radico metal lures. WESTERN ENTRANCE Danny fished out of the Western Entrance last Saturday and at about 2pm landed this ripper Yellowtail Kingfish that Danny reports to be approximately 12kg. Danny reports that an X-Rap 30 did the job. RHYLL 4 year old Tom Rio with his first King George Whiting caught off Rhyll. Tom was using Pipi and we are sure that this is the first of many to come! NEWHAVEN Young William Brown with his PB garfish caught from the Newhaven Boat ramp car park. Using plenty of berley helps to keep the Gars around. EILDON Michael Stead caught this 115cm monster Murray Cod which weighed around 45kg. OFFSHORE Australian cricketers, Cameron White and James Pattinson have been into the Bass Strait Kingfish once again this week. The boys caught Kingfish to 96cm all on live baits. SURF COAST The beaches have provided Australian Salmon to 2kg for anglers casting metal lures up to 25g. Blue and green lures have been producing the most fish.
