Established an internship program
designed to assist members of the
community to acquire skills needed for
broadcast employment.
During the reporting period, WTVA had seven
students utilize our internship program during the
year. One was from Delta State University, six
were from The University of
Mississippi. One intern was placed in sports and
news, following reporting into the field. Five
interns were in the news department following
reporters in the field. As part of the internship,
interns had to write, shoot and edit news
packages. The final intern was in the community
relations and promotions department. The intern
was helping to plan events and helping to edit
promotional spots.
This program is open to all students at an
accredited institution who are majoring or
specializing in a broadcast field or a field related
to the internship offered. Interns are exposed to
all areas of the department they choose and get a
feel for what goes on in the daily operation of a
commercial television station. Internships are
unpaid and students must receive class credit.
Complete guidelines and applications are
available at the WTVA studios as well as on our
