* Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts’ Theatre Education Program (TEP) SUMMER THEATRE ENHANCEMENT 2015 THIS YEAR OFFERING 3 - THREE WEEK SESSIONS *This year we will be offering 3-three week sessions. Students are welcome to enroll in one, two or all three sessions. Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts’ Theatre Education Program Summer Theatre Enhancement is an intensive theatre training program. It is designed to give all students, novices and seasoned performers alike, the opportunity to participate in the theatre experience. While we would like to think all participants will become active theatre participants, the goals of each session are to give the student a creative, collaborative atmosphere that fosters their self-esteem and communication skills. Important Information • Summer Theatre Enhancement 2015 is held daily, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm for 3 weeks • Session 1 - June 29 - July 17, 2015 (Showcase, July 18, 2015, 10:00 am) • Session 2 - July 20 - August 7, 2015 (Showcase, Aug. 8, 2015, 10:00 am) • Session 3 - August 10 - August 28, 2015 (Showcase, Aug. 29, 2015, 10:00 am) • All students will take part in a showcase at the end of each 3-week session. • We accept youth Ages 7 - 18. Students will be placed into classes based on grade level and age prior to the first day of each session. • First time enrollees in our TEP Program must pay a $40.00 administration fee. • All classes will meet at the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts. • Enrollment is limited to 50 youth per session. • No transportation or food is provided by the TEP Program. Youth must be transported to and from the theatre by either a parent or guardian, or an authorized individual of the enrollee. All students should bring their own bag lunch and snacks. No youth will be permitted to leave the facility at any time. (i.e. they can not go around the corner for pizza or ice cream). • A lottery for parents who wish to accompany their child on the field trip will be held at an appropriate date. Session 1: June 29 - July 17, 2015 3 week program Monday - Friday 9am-3pm (age 7- 18) "From Page To Stage" Session 2: July 20 - August 7, 2015 3 week program Monday - Friday 9am-3pm (age 7- 18) "The Fairy Tale Musical" Most musicals derive from another source. The novel, short story, and novellette are common source material for musicals like Carousel, The Color Purple, Jane Eyre, Ragtime and many, many more. This session’s showcase will focus on songs from these shows as well as many others. We will discuss the creative process of taking an existing story and bringing it to a new life as a Broadway Musical. *This price includes a field trip to see Broadway’s “Finding Neverland” on July 8, 2015. PLEASE NOTE: Field Trip includes: 1 ticket to the show, lunch and games at Dave & Buster’s and transportation round trip to NYC via LIRR. Smithtown To Penn Station and return. Cinderella, Once Upon A Mattress, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Shrek, and the quintessential Into The Woods are musicals that derived from a children’s story know as a ‘fairy tale’. This session’s showcase will focus on songs from these shows as well as many others. We will explore the creative process of taking a make believe character and bringing it to life. *This price includes a field trip to see Broadway’s “The Heart of Robin Hood” on July 29, 2015. Session 3: August 10 - August 28, 2015 3 week program Monday - Friday 9am-3pm (age 7- 18) "The British Invasion" In the 1980’s, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron McIntosh brought shows like CATS, Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables to Broadway. This phenomenon came to be called “The British Invasion”. But before and after these Broadway icons, the Brits were and still are creating great musical like Oliver, Billy Elliot, The Who’s Tommy and Queen’s We Will Rock You. This session’s showcase will focus on songs from these shows and more as we discover creativity from “the other side of the pond”. *This price includes a field trip to see Broadway’s “MATILDA” on Aug. 19, 2015. PROGRAM DETAILS: This is an intensive theatre program. Students spend all their time working on theatre projects. (No sports or recreation breaks.) Students will spend part of most days in classes including dance, voice for musical theatre, and acting technique/improvisation. These classes will focus on general technique for musical theatre, with an emphasis on audition preparation and technique. It is our goal for every student to become a successful auditioner and to have the correct materials and knowledge to be able to do so. Topics relating to the showcase will also be discussed and presented on most days in a full group setting. The showcase will include full group numbers, small group numbers, and possibly a limited number of solos and/or duets. After students are comfortable and prepared there will be a very lowstress audition process to both evaluate the level at which the students are for class work and to place them into group numbers for the showcase. Any solos and/or duets will be decided on the basis of classwork. TEP Registration Rules : • All classes must be paid in full at time of registration.
