Introduction
Welcome to the Provider Directory and Resource Guide for Armstrong-Indiana Counties Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services. The purpose of
the guide is to help identify appropriate behavioral health services and ancillary services available within Armstrong-Indiana Counties. This guide was prepared
primarily for individuals and families residing in Armstrong-Indiana Counties who are members of the HealthChoices Program, the managed care program for
individuals who have the Department of Public Welfare Medical Assistance ACCESS card. Members of the HealthChoices Program usually know they are members
and have received a Member Handbook from Value Behavioral Health of Pennsylvania (VBH-PA), their managed care organization. These individuals can access
services by calling the toll-free VBH-PA Armstrong-Indiana Counties Member Line at 1 (877) 688-5969 or by calling one of the listed providers.
Please note that services in the HealthChoices Program depend on eligible individuals receiving Medical Necessity Evaluations for assessment purposes and to
determine the appropriate level of care that will best meet their needs. All services listed in the guide are specific to Armstrong-Indiana Counties. Not all services or
providers listed may be available in other counties. Likewise, services or providers may be available in other counties that are not available in Armstrong-Indiana
Counties.

HealthChoices Mental Health Services
Inpatient Psychiatric Services
Description
Providers
Treatment and care for individuals with serious
mental health problems delivered in a hospital setting.
The individual typically stays overnight in the
hospital.
24-hour services that can be used at any time day or
night in a crisis or emergency situation to ensure safety
and assist in resolving the crisis.

Family Based Mental Health Services
Intensive in-home mental health services for children
and adolescents and their families. Services focus on
assisting the youth and their family deal with the
youth’s mental health or behavior problem.
 Community Guidance Center
 Family Counseling Center of Armstrong County
 Unity Family Services
Outpatient Mental Health Services
Individual, group, or family counseling with a
therapist who works on the identified mental health
concerns. Outpatient services can also include visits
with a psychiatrist for medication assessment.




Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services
(Mobile or Site Based)
Community based services delivered to adults
with serious mental health problems to build skill
levels and provide environmental supports.

HealthChoices Mental Health Services
Description

Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services
(BHRS)
Home, school, or community-based treatment
services for individuals under 21 years of age who have
a serious mental health problem. Mobile Therapy
(MT), Therapeutic Staff Support services (TSS),
Behavioral Specialist Consultant services (BSC), and
Summer Therapeutic Activities Programs (STAP) are
all part of BHRS.




Multi-Systemic Therapy
Intensive in-home mental health services for
youth under 18 years of age who are also involved in
the juvenile justice or child welfare systems.

Base Service Unit (BSU) Assessments, Service
Plans, Intakes
Comprehensive assessment and referral
services for individuals experiencing serious mental
health problems.
 Community Guidance Center
 Family Counseling Center of Armstrong County
Residential Treatment Facility Services
Treatment and care for serious mental health
problems for individuals under 21 years of age. The
individual resides in a licensed mental health facility with
24-hour supervision while receiving treatment.

Case Management Services
A Case Manager who will work with an
individual with mental health concerns to identify
and access necessary community services and
resources.
Specialized services that focus on recovery and
are delivered by trained individuals who are selfidentified as current or former consumers of behavioral
health services.

HealthChoices Drug and Alcohol
Services
Hospital-Based Detoxification and/or
Rehabilitation
Description
Providers
Treatment that provides 24-hour medically directed
evaluation, detoxification and care delivered in a hospital
setting for addicted clients. This service is used when
specialized and intensive medical care is required.

Non-Hospital Based Detoxification and/or
Rehabilitation
Treatment conducted in a licensed residential facility that
provides 24-hour professionally directed evaluation,
detoxification, and care. Client symptoms are not severe
enough to require hospitalization, but require multidisciplinary personnel and 24-hour monitoring.
 ARC Manor (adults)

Armstrong-Indiana Counties.
Drug & Alcohol Partial
Regularly scheduled treatment in a licensed facility for
clients who do not require 24-hour residential care, but
whose issues related to alcohol and other drug use
require intensive treatment. Individual, group, or family
psychotherapy sessions occur at least three days per
week, with a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Intensive Outpatient Drug and Alcohol
Services
Regularly scheduled treatment in a licensed
non-residential facility. Individual, group, or family
counseling occurs at least three days per week for at
least five hours, but less than 10 hours.

Regularly scheduled treatment in a licensed nonresidential facility. Individual, group or family
psychotherapy sessions occur no more than five hours

Treatment
Treatment conducted in a community-based
licensed residential treatment facility containing no more
than 25 beds. Individual, group, and family sessions are
regularly scheduled, as well as assistance in
economic/social adjustment and integration of life skills.
Clients entering this environment must have already had
some experience in another type of drug and alcohol
treatment.

Single County Authority (SCA) Assessments,
Referral to Treatment, Intensive Case
Management Services
Comprehensive assessment, referral to treatment, case
coordination, and certified recovery specialist services for
individuals experiencing problems related to the use of
alcohol and other drugs.
