Avro VTA Pod Systems
Note: The VTA POD is used to rough set the height of the tone arm. The VTA should be adjusted from the tone
arm VTA system using the indicator as the instructions will outline. If you have purchased the Graham Tone
Arm without VTA then “On the Fly VTA” System will apply, thanks
Any disassembly of the tone arm base, pod, pod cap or tone arm will VOID all warranties. If in doubt email
[email protected]
The VTA pod may be used in two configurations the standard AVRO set up is configuration One, the AVRO tone arm has
built in “On the Fly” height adjustments. The Option Two Graham configuration provides on the Fly VTA adjustment. The
TTW Graham tone arm does not have a dial VTA system and requires the VTA pod.
Standard Avro Manual Movement of VTA Piston
The Manual VTA piston allows a very long travel and the tone arm is initially set using the manual movement of the piston
as shown.
Configuration Two: “On the Fly VTA System”
Graham Tone Arm Only: Fine VTA adjustment of pod height providing stable “On the Fly” very small
adjustments.
The VTA on the fly POD will be factory set with the turntable you have purchased. The POD is factory configured and is
preset to the correct height and all that needs to be done is fine adjustment after the arm is set up using the setting jigs.

Lowest Position
1
You may remove one of the THREADED PLUGs on either side of the pod. The arm
pod will move easier for adjusting. If the plug is left in place the piston will move
slowly but this is the safest way to move the arm.
2
Assure the top and bottom screw are unlocked with a 3/32 Allen key
2
Highest Position
3
Move arm pod piston as shown by holding the cap and gently lifting up or down to the
desired position.
You must lock the two locking set screws before you release the arm piston to lock the
piston at the correct height.
Do not attempt to unlock the center screw it is a fixed set screw.

The VTA “Knob”
Note: The standard On the Fly VTA height is factory set, this is a guide
for upgrading your Tone Arm Pod and or if you have purchased the
optional VTA System at any time.
To installing the VTA Knob move the piston to the highest position and lock the two set
screws as described in the previous section.
2
Simply remove the threaded plug with a ¼ inch Allen key and thread the VTA Screw all
the way in (clockwise) until the VTA knob stops. Note the gap, when the VTA handle is
turned you will see very fine movement here. The POD VTA Knob DOES NOT
change the indicator dial this system moves the entire arm assembly upwards and
downwards. This feature is designed for super fine listening tuning and may be
adjusted while the record is playing. Clock wise moves the arm assembly upwards.
3
NOTE: Do not unscrew the Knob any more than three turns after you see the thread
as shown.
2
3
In the event you mistakenly unscrew the VTA knob all
the way out no harm will come to the tone arm,
simply follow the procedure as we have described and
re install the VTA knob.

Do not attempt to unlock the center screw it is a fixed set screw.
This provides the rough set VTA (next page) and also allows the use of
different thickness platter
The VTA piston will now move up and down ½ an inch by hand as shown.
The piston rides on an air cushion and will move slowly with some resistance
for accurate positioning.

the VTA as level as possible, fine tuning will be done with the
VTA screw.
3
Relock the top and bottom screw with a 3/32 Allen key
holding the piston place until locked.
3
The tone arm is now positioned and the VTA is set at 91
degrees (plus or minus a little) and this is generally the starting point of final VTA adjustments.

How to use the indicator –Using the chart helps
understand actual movements of the arm height and
the corresponding changes in angles of SRA/VTA.
The dial can be rotated also to set the zero, simply
unlock the bezel lock screw , and turn the black
outside bezel ring to set a zero and lock the screw.
The two preset points are moved by simply sliding
them around the circle and may be used for record
heights and or changes you have made.

Horizontal Balancing and Tracking Force
Remove the tone arm tie at this stage. Please note always keep the stylus guard in place when
making any changes.
Horizontal Balance
Mount the shell/cartridge onto tonearm, suitable cartridge self weight is 4 – 12gr (Up to 20
with heavier counter weight)
1
Thread the counterweight on to the back of the arm and adjust counter weight by turning it
until the tonearm floats approximately/ horizontal to the turntable and the baseboard.
Turn the dial on the weight to set to “0”
2
1
2
Note: A new Counter Weight is being developed, there are currently two version, the one with the o-rings on the
outside is lockable with the set screw, the other standard weight turn and stays in place with a spring loaded ball on
the arm shaft.

Stylus Pressure
1. Turn the stylus pressure adjustment ring to “0” as shown above
2. Move the counter weight forward by turning it until its indicator points to the recommended stylus pressure.
3. The AVRO Arm should be used with a digital stylus gauge for accurate results, the incremental lines will be
accurate within +/-.2 grams only******************
4. Once final position is achieved lock the counterweight as shown
We recommend the use of a digital stylus gauge for better results.
Azimuth Adjustments
1
Unlock the Azimuth screw and the headshell can be rotated until
the azimuth is correct, parallel from the front view as shown..

Anti-Skating Adjustment
When a vinyl record spins, the stylus riding in the groove is pulled in
toward the center of the vinyl, causing a greater stylus pressure
against the outside wall of the groove than against the inside wall.
In order to counter this pressure, an anti-skating mechanism is
incorporated in the tonearm.
It is calibrated from 0 to 3gr in 0.5gr increment corresponding with
the same calibration for somewhat less of the stylus pressure.

Installing Your Own Cartridge with the Alignment Protractor
Supplied.
1 –Line up the A-A line with the pivot point of the tone arm with the
ruler by eye, rough position
1
2 – Line up tone arm (move pod) to match the cross hairs. There are
the two common methods, try each; the Lofgren (L) or Baerwald (B) they are slightly
different alignment theories but both work well. Move the spindle point and set the
tone arm to the corresponding cross hairs.
Align the zenith by loosening the screws and rotating the cartridge until the front
face parallel to the cross hairs and make sure you align the stylus tip to the cross
hairs as shown.
The huge advantage of the remote pod is the cartridge does not have to be adjusted
to set the final position relative the grid lines. The final fine adjust can be done by
gently moving the arm pod.
