PHASE 2: DEVELOPMENT PHASE
 Participation in the program is based on the California Professional Standards for Educational
Leaders (CPSELs). Small cohorts will collaboratively explore the theory and application of the
standards. Below are the six core courses aligned to the CPSELS:
1. Shared Vision of Learning
2. Culture of Teaching and Learning
3. Culturally Conscious Leadership
4. Personal Ethics and Leadership Capacity
5. Social, Political, Legal, Economic and Cultural Understanding
6. Management of the School in Service of Teaching and Learning
The program also includes: Technology Boot Camp, Orientation, and the Leadership
Application: Leading a PLC (final assessment). The Face-to-Face program includes a
Symposium at the end of the program.
 Participants in either program can expect to participate in online learning that is interactive and
reinforces concepts and strategies learned in coursework. For participants in the Face-to-Face
program, a community of learners is created for continued support in the form of threaded
discussions, chat room, announcements, and a research writing component. Participants in the
Online program utilize the online environment for access to course content, assignments,
resources and participation in synchronous sessions (1 per course).
 Fieldwork experiences, comprising approximately 25% of the program, are focused on teaching
and learning. A coach, trained in Cognitive CoachingSM, provides monthly coaching sessions
for all participants in the Face-to-Face program or as needed for Online program participants as
he/she advances through the program. There will be the development of a Field-Based

 Question 3 Written Response - Scenario Question:
Carefully read the scenario below and envision yourself as a member of this grade level team. How
might you respond in this situation?
At the end of a unit of instruction the summative results from your grade level indicate that while many
students are able to demonstrate proficiency, several students are not yet at the proficient level. As the
grade level team reflects on this data they also decide to investigate some other areas of concern that
they feel might be the cause of the lack of academic achievement. As you review this list of concerns
please choose at least five of the ones that you feel are the most important:
Curriculum
Socioeconomic Level
Homework Completion
Collaboration of Teachers
School Funding
Parent Involvement
Test Scores
Language Ability
Intervention
Student Effort
Assessment
Learning Disability
Grading Policy
Curriculum Delivery
Rigor of Work
Once you select the five most important areas of concern, please share with us your thoughts on
how your team can utilize these concerns to help students achieve.
