For our inaugural event, we will be placing our focus on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart’s move permanently to Vienna in the early 1780s sparked not only a period of compositional creativity, but also, in him, a new way of thinking about the position and role of a musician in a society. In this presentation, Professor Bernard Lanskey, the Director of Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, will lead in exploring some of the issues Mozart faced as a newly married entrepreneur starting up. The presentation explores the consequences of this development as evident in two ensemble works from the period, the Piano Concerto in E-flat, K449 and the Quintet for Piano and Winds, K452, performed by students from YSTCM. Pre-dinner drinks will be followed by a four-course meal interspersed with discussion and performances. Each of the four presentations (after drinks and each course culminating in a performance at the end) would be approximately 10-15 minutes. 2| Page Beyond the Score: Mozart – The Start-Up Updated as at 18 August 2014 Programme Details Details Date Time Venue Fee Dress Code 15th October 2014, Wednesday 6.30pm to 9.30pm Suntec City Guild House, Function Rooms NUSS Members: $50 Guest of NUSS Members: $60 NUS Staff / Students: $60 Public: $70 Business Attire Fees Fees stated are excluding prevailing GST.
