WOW: Children to bring in their favourite toy from Christmas. Children also to
be visited by a grandparent to talk about the toys they had when they were
younger.
Literacy- We will be reading and
writing instructions on how to make
a simple toy. We will also be
labelling different toys.
Maths- We will be looking at
finding one more and finding the
total of two groups. We will also
using money to pay for items in our
school toy shop.

The children will decide on who had
more fun with toys, their grandparents or
themselves.

goals and will learn how to achieve

Letters and Sounds- Phase 3.
The children will be learning to
recognise digraphs (two letters that
make one sound) i.e. ch, sh, th.
Physical Development- We will
be focusing on different ways of
moving and will be moving around
like toys (puppets, robots).
Understanding of the worldWe will be looking at Chinese New
Year and tasting Chinese food and
exploring how the years got their
names.

Children will discover how different

French- The children will be
learning to name toys in French
and also say yes and no. The
children will also be following
instructions in French.
Music- The children will be
looking at tempo by learning a
variety of songs about toys.

out if the toys they play with are the

SMSC- The
children will have
awareness of other children’s toys in
other parts of the world and will locate
them on a map.

The children will be exploring toys
from the past. They will be finding
out what their grandparents used
to play with and will make
comparisons with toys today. The
children will also learn to play
some traditional games for
example hopscotch.

Expressive Arts and Design- We
will be exploring printing
techniques and creating our own
toys in the style of Andy Warhol.
1. What did you get for Christmas?
The children will be talking about their
favourite toy and what they like best
about it. The children will also be asking
and answering questions about their
toys. The children will then write about
their favourite toy.
SMSC- The children will learn that others
have different favourite toys and reasons
why.
The children will discuss which materials they
would use to make a new class teddy bear.
The children will spend time in the outdoor
garden looking at natural resources to see if
they could use these when making their teddy
bear.
SMSC- The children will have more of an
awareness as to materials and the environment in
which they come from.
3. How have toys changed?
Children will create a toy
timeline looking at toys over
time and how they have
changed. The children will
particularly looking at the
teddy bear and how it has
changed.
SMSC- The children will gain an
awareness of cultural influences
around the toys some children
have and the reasons around
this.
