Not for Profit & Charitable Organization Involvement
As CEO for many companies, some which were quite large with large charity budgets, I have naturally been involved in
several not for profit and charitable organizations. Not only is it “part of the job”, but it was one of the most rewarding
aspects of my professional life. I founded a start-up not for profit trade association for environmental contractors in the
1980’s which grew to be a large, strong force in the emergence of environmental standards and regulations. I served as
its Executive Director for several years. Additionally I served on the boards of two national charitable organizations.
My wife and I founded a private charity, funded it and managed it for years focusing on children born with physical
disabilities. I served on Governor Sibelius (Kansas) first Economic Development Commission. And finally, as CEO of
Oread and Hall Kimbrell, both the company and I personally were very involved in local charities by contributing time
and money as well as fund raising for various local organizations. Hall Kimbrell and I were the senior sponsors of the
Kansas Open, a golf event held annually with proceeds going to local charities. The following is a partial list:
Founder & Exec Director, National Association of Asbestos Abatement Contractors
 The first not for profit trade association for the newly emerging environmental
contractor industry in the US. Served for 3 years after founding and then handed
mantle off to the board. Held national conventions and trade shows in Las Vegas
1985 – 1987
Board Member, Hugh O’Brien Leadership, Kansas Chapter, Lawrence, KS
 National Organization focusing on local youths commitment to leadership
And innovation through community serve and volunteering
1987- 1990
Board Member, Habitat for Humanity, Northeast Kansas Chapter, Topeka, KS
 Charity for Home building for underprivileged families. My wife and I
also contributed funds to build one entire house in Lawrence.
1987-1989
Founder and Exec Director, David & Janet Kimbrell Foundation for Children with Disabilities
1989-1995
 Funded, invested, and distributed funds to organizations focused on myo-electric limbs
for children born with missing or mal formed limbs.
