Congratulations to Max Mitchell-Adam’s and the
Moorabbin Rams on winning the U/12 Division in
the Victorian Rugby Union. Well done Max.
YEAR 5 SOCCER POEM - By Cindy van Dijk
So many boys came that day, for it was soccer they
wanted to play.
Lachlan and Tom were there like a flash, making their
mark, ready for a clash.
Josh and Declan were very steady, in the A’s they were
always the first ready.
Sam and Cam were our champion men in the goal, this
helped both teams get on a roll.
Kirill and Cameron were a dominant two, totally
supported by Adam’s quick shoe.
Just as the soccer season really got started, Billy,
unfortunately, to London departed.
Harley and Nick always quietly working, on passing to
where their striker was lurking.
Will and Lachlan expertly cleared the ball to the wings,
where our forwards were able to score like kings.
James had an unfortunate accident this year, and for
that all his team mates shed a tear.
Griffin and Edward took a while to get started, but
played a game which was consistently big hearted.
Sam and Christian became the terribly twins, between
them they secured a few wins.
Tony and Ryan were our men at the back, whilst Charlie
and Owen preferred playing attack.
Vassili, Prair and James were reliable in midfield, every
ball they were willing to shield.
Patrick and Jack were formidable in defence, making our
opposition extremely tense!
Hamish and Patrick enjoyed playing forward, which
certainly made choosing teams a little awkward.
And of course Shotoro, our Japanese member, helped
make 2014 a season to remember.
And so the season ended with some terrific highs,
making us all wonder why term three flies.
Thanks to all the Year 5 Soccer players for a most
enjoyable season.

APS SPORTS - ROUND 7 REPORTS
6B SOCCER
On Wednesday the BGS 6Bs played St Kevin’s. The team
played really well as a whole and we came out with a
narrow loss. Our goal scorer was Tommy Colaci who did
a fantastic job with 2 goals! Another of our great players
Max McLachlan worked hard and made many excellent
passes and shots. Our defenders Victor and Jaxon did an
especially good job in defence. Our best players were
Max, Tommy, Victor and Luca, all doing really well. We
definitely improved in the second half, having more
chances to shoot and scoring our two goals. All in all this
was a really good game with a fair result.

5A SOCCER
The 5A soccer team followed up last week’s victory with
another great performance against Xavier Kostka Hall.
The match was hard fought against a strong and
determined Xavier eleven but BGS’s 3/4/3 combination
with central attacking midfield was too strong. BGS
dominated the game with some great goal keeping by
Cameron Hathway, strong defence by James Cannuli,
Hamish Roberts and Vassili Kyparisis; good run out of
the midfield by Declan Hayes, Kirill Carne, Edward
Greenslade, Tom Burnell, Prair Cantone, and Griffin
Sherwood; and sound striking by Lachie Zissis (2 goals),
Cameron Kahn (1 goal), Owen Vulcan and Josh Gill. BGS
held off a late surge by Xavier to win 3 goals to 2 goals.
Thanks to all the boys for their champion effort this
week. Thanks also to Mr Zissis and Mr Davies for
coaching and refereeing the team.

5B SOCCER
On Wednesday Melbourne
Grammar School
(MGS) came to Brighton Grammar (BGS) to play a game
of soccer. MGS kicked off in the first half, but BGS
immediately put pressure on and after a good
interception BGS had control of the ball. After a bit of
congested play the game started to spread out with
some amazing passes and plays from both teams. The
score was 0-0 as half time approached but, that was
about to change. Adam Larkan ran down the side doing
a neat pass to Harley Chessells, who took advantage of
this great pass to get round a defender and score the
first goal of the game. After half time there was some
more good play from both sides until the ball went out
for a corner down BGS's end. Adam Larkan took the
corner it went to Lachlan Stewart, he controlled it well
and passed it back to Harley Chessells who kicked the
ball above the goalkeeper for the second goal of the
match. The game ended with a win to BGS by a margin
of 2-0. Our defenders deserve a lot of credit because
they were extremely solid and the ball barely ever went
past them.
This was a good send-off game for Charlie Schwert who
will miss the last two games. Thanks to Nick Barreto for
running the bench and Ms van Dijk for being
our referee.
6A BASKETBALL
On Wednesday the BGS 6A Basketball team played
Xavier, Burke Hall in an away game. Having beaten this
team earlier on in the season we hoped for a victory.
However, Xavier played a great game and we were
beaten convincingly 31-58. Jack Damyon played a
brilliant game and multiple points were scored by James
Sherborne, Rex Patterson and Josh Bortolussi. Thank you
to Mrs Box who coached us.

5B BASKETBALL
After a long trip and unkind traffic, the 5B Basketball
team played an amazing match against Scotch at
Boroondara Basketball Stadium in Balwyn. We tried hard
and didn’t give up, however, our team of seven boys lost
by thirteen points. Josh Hudghton was one of the best
players, Mathew also played a good game. Thomas (who
is the same height as our coach, Mrs. Webster) did a fine
job at rebounding. Even though we had skilled players,
our opponents were too strong on the day. At the end of
the match, the score was 12 to 25. Although defeated,
we are proud of our efforts.

6A HOCKEY
On Wednesday the 6A Hockey team ventured to
Brighton Secondary College for what we now know as
our best game of the season so far. When we arrived we
had a little warm up before our opponent’s, Scotch
College, came along. By then, though we were all ready
and hyped up. They started off well, but we quickly stole
the ball off them with Angus Bland hitting in a
spectacular goal for BGS. At half time it was 3-0. We all
huddled together for a talk of strategy with the former
1st’s Captain, Patrick Neville. When we got back out
there we were really excited knowing all we had to do
was hold our lead. When the final whistle blew, it was 80 to BGS. We were quite surprised because Scotch was a
great team and were really quick on the ball. Thanks to
all the year 6 Hockey coaches for coaching and
supporting us on to this spectacular win and good luck
next week.
Goal scorers were Spencer Wood (2), Ben Morgan (2),
Joel Tyler (1), Angus Bland(1), Max Post (1), Zach AdamGedge (1).

5A HOCKEY
This Wednesday the 5A Hockey team played Melbourne
Grammar. A few of our players had experienced playing
Melbourne in the past.
APS SPORTS - ROUND 7 REPORTS (continued)
TERM 2 SPORT PHOTOGRAPHS
They said that they were very good. But, we all knew
that if we were going to win, we had to stop thinking
about the team and focus on our game. They had 20
players, we had 12. At the beginning of the first half,
Melbourne played very strong defence. Then, we
scored a goal. With five minutes to go, Brendan Reddell
was hit in the knee with a stick. We put a rebound right
past the goalie. It was 2-0 at the end of the first half. At
the start of the second half, we got a goal on a short
corner. Then, less than five minutes later we put one in
on another short corner. We got another short corner
and slapped one in too. Right before the end of the
game, on the final short corner of the day, we scored
one more for a 6-0 victory. Goal scorers were Andrew
Penca (3), Sven Steward (2), and Brendan Reddell (1). It
wasn’t just the people who scored that helped. Many
people assisted to set up to score, as well as the defence
that stopped shots so we could get the shut out. Last
but not least, our goalie Owen Dials, stopped shots for
us to get the win. This sets our record at 6 wins and 1
loss.
