The seeds of Dutch Openers were sown in the early 1930s, in Holland. Pieter Cruson,
a hardworking newlywed, started a traditional blacksmith workshop. Cruson was granted
permission to immigrate to Canada in 1950, and in 1952 Dutch Blacksmith Shop put down
roots. Cruson made the pivotal decision to provide quality steel products to local farmers and
businessmen. This vision grew into Dutch Industries. And today, Dutch is still growing. Cruson’s
three values were simple:
Produce a quality product you can be proud of.
Give your customers the best possible service.
Always remember, family comes first.
Eventually, Cruson passed the business on to his son, who took it to the next level. Now the
third generation of sons is taking the family business even further, branching out into three
distinct companies: Dutch Openers, Dutch Manufacturing, and Dutch Steel. We believe our
plans for growth will greatly impress you.
Today, with over 60 years of experience, Dutch Openers is creating industry-leading seed and
fertilizer openers with technologically advanced equipment in a 55,000 square foot facility in
Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan. Dutch Openers continues Pieter Cruson's proud tradition, serving a
growing list of agricultural and industrial customers, from over 11 countries on six continents.

OUTLAW™ SERIES
The Dutch Outlaw Series opener was designed specifically for moisture conserving
regions. The narrow style reduces soil disturbance while maintaining great seed
and/or fertilizer placement. This opener uses a triple or quadruple carbided ½" wide
replaceable tip to break the soil with minimal soil disturbance. The product delivery
tubes are protected by carbide and extra tough hard surfacing to reduce wear in
tough and abrasive soils. The Outlaw Series boasts a hand-crafted steel body with
hardened steel for maximum durability.

Proper seed placement and distribution is key to maximizing germination,
emergence, maturity and yield. Unfortunately, not all of today’s air drills are
equipped to distribute seed evenly, especially when drill widths exceed 50 feet.

The PAMI study* showed that vine lifters are a very economical investment for harvesting peas
and lentils and the crop saved is substantial and will pay back the purchase price quickly.
The cutting performance of all four knives was greatly enhanced through the use of vine lifters. Vine
lifters reduced the number of missed plants of any knife system from 5% to less than 1.5% of crop yield.
Vine lifters also reduced the incidence of plugging, and permitted faster travel speeds, up to 6 mph
(10 km/h), in most pea and lentil fields.
Rigid lifters were preferred over skid lifters in all cases and they penetrated the soil to lift completely
flattened vines. Skid lifters rode over the lowest vines, causing losses. In short and medium height pulse
crops the smaller rigid lifters, performed best.

sponsorship of the Saskatchewan Pulse Crop Development
Board and Saskatchewan Agriculture Development Fund.

The correct operating angle of Dutch Openers is critical. The shank
must be physically measured to determine the angle of operation.
If the angle is not 50 degrees it must be shimmed, or you may see:
