Welcome to your Winter DalesBus Services
The beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and
Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is easily accessible from
most parts of West Yorkshire by bus and train.
This booklet has been produced by WYCA and the Dales & Bowland
Community Interest Company as a guide to the main bus services into
the Yorkshire Dales for winter 2014-5.
• Daily bus services are provided in Wharfedale from Ilkley to
Grassington (services 74 & 874), from Skipton to Grassington and
Buckden (services 72/72R & 872), in Nidderdale from Harrogate to
Pateley Bridge (service 24), from Garsdale Station to Hawes (LWB &
service 855), and along Wensleydale (services 155, 156 & 856).
• On most other routes there are regular buses on Mondays to Saturdays.
• There are DalesBus services every Sunday throughout the winter
from Wakefield, Rothwell, Leeds, Adel, Otley, Ilkley and Skipton;
with buses from York, Harrogate and Wetherby on selected Sundays.
• Various fare offers are available, including One Way £1 fares for
young people (see page 4); Dales Rambler rail+bus tickets (see
page 6), Dales Rover tickets on Sundays (see page 5); and free
travel on off-peak services for holders of English National
Concessionary Passes.
The next edition of this timetable booklet will be available in late
March 2015.
The services in this booklet are either provided on a commercial basis
by the bus operators or provided with financial support from North
Yorkshire County Council, WYCA or the Local Sustainable Transport
Fund via DITA. Most of the Sunday DalesBus network is managed
by the Dales & Bowland Community Interest Company.

DalesBus Tickets Winter 2014-2015
Tickets on DalesBus Services
A range of value-for-money tickets is
available on DalesBus services.
Ordinary single and day return tickets are
available from the driver on all routes, although return tickets are not
available for some shorter journeys.
Holders of English National Concessionary Passes can travel free on
off-peak services except on demand-responsive services and where
otherwise stated.
Dales Rover tickets offer unlimited travel on most DalesBus services
on Sundays including student discounts. See page opposite for details.
Many bus operators, including Pride of the Dales, Transdev Harrogate
and Transdev Keighley, offer tickets providing unlimited travel on buses
of that operator for a day or week – contact the operators for details.
The One Way £1 scheme, managed by DITA, allows young people
to travel for £1 per journey on some buses within the Yorkshire Dales
area – see www.dalesconnect.net for details.
Dales Rambler tickets are available for a trip from Leeds and Bradford
on the Airedale and Wharfedale railway lines. Tickets include a return
journey by train to Ilkley or Skipton, then travel by DalesBus services
to Upper Wharfedale and (on Saturdays/Sundays only) to Malham.

Special Offer for MCard and
MetroCard Holders on Sundays
MCard and MetroCard holders can travel free on all Sunday DalesBus
services from West Yorkshire; that is services 823, 870, 873, 874
and 884.
Please note that Metro DayRover, MetroDay & Weekender tickets are
only valid within West Yorkshire on DalesBus services.

Dales Rover Tickets Winter 2014-2015
Dales Rover tickets offer unlimited travel on most DalesBus
services on Sundays. They can be bought from the driver on
any participating service.
DalesBus participating services (Sundays only):
24, 823, 825, 855, 856, 870, 872, 873, 874 and 884
also Upper Dales CONNECT within Wensleydale
Up to two children (aged up to 16) or young people (if holding a Metro
Scholar's PhotoCard) may travel free with each Dales Rover holder on
DalesBus services.
Please note: Dales Rover tickets are only valid on Sundays.
DALES FREEDOM ROVER
£10.00*
Valid on all participating DalesBus services, plus all buses operated by
Transdev Harrogate & District, Keighley & District, Burnley & Pendle
and Lancashire United.
SOUTHERN DALES ROVER
£8.00*
Valid on all participating DalesBus services in the Southern Zone, as far
as Malham, Buckden, Middlesmoor, Knaresborough, Tadcaster,
Wakefield and Burnley (see map on pages 26 and 27).
NORTHERN DALES ROVER
£8.00*
Valid on all participating DalesBus services in the Northern Zone, anywhere
between Garsdale Station and Northallerton (see map on pages 26 and 27)
STUDENT DALES ROVER
£5.00*
Show your student card to buy or use a Student Dales Rover ticket –
valid for travel on all participating DalesBus services.

Get into Wharfedale by
Train and DalesBus
Great days out in the Yorkshire Dales are
easier with DALES RAMBLER tickets
Take a day out in Wharfedale or Malhamdale, and visit one of the pretty
Dales villages of Burnsall, Kettlewell, Buckden or Malham; or the town of
Grassington. Stop for a relaxing break in one of the many tea shops or pubs.
Amble through the ruins of the great Bolton Abbey or visit the
Strid where the River Wharfe is forced through a natural ravine.
Tickets are available for a trip to the Dales from Leeds or Bradford or
any station on the Airedale or Wharfedale railway lines. Ask for a ‘DALES
RAMBLER’ ticket on the train or at the ticket office. Tickets are priced as
follows*: Adult: £11.00; Child: £5.50; Railcard: £7.25; Family: £23.00

Friends of DalesBus
The Yorkshire Dales has its own public transport users
group which campaigns for accessible and affordable
public transport for visitors and residents.
The Friends of DalesBus has been running since 1996, and has now grown
to a membership of around 350 people.
In association with the Yorkshire Dales Society, the Friends established the
Dales & Bowland Community Interest Company, which now manages much
of the Sunday & Bank Holiday bus network in the Yorkshire Dales.
The Group also organises the Dales Bus Ramblers programme of free guided
walks, which are all accessible by public transport and open to the general

Advice for bus users
How to use the bus
• At the stop or shelter please indicate clearly to the bus driver that
you intend to get on the bus.
• When you get on the bus please tell the driver where you are going.
• If you can give the exact fare, please do so.
• When you are getting close to the stop where you want to get off
please ring the bell once, then stay in your seat until the bus stops.
• Smoking is not allowed on any buses.
• For the safety and security of passengers all bus stations, some bus
stops and some buses are fitted with CCTV equipment.
• In country areas where there are no bus stops DalesBus services will
stop anywhere it is safe to do so, again please indicate clearly to the
bus driver that you intend to get on the bus. Avoid waiting near
bends or narrow sections of the road where it would be unsafe
for the bus to stop.
• Please note that DalesBus service 870 operates on a limited stop
basis in West Yorkshire - see page 51 for details
Using our bus stations safely
When using Metro’s bus stations:
• Directional signs and notices are there for your safety,
please follow them.
• Please follow instructions given by the station staff in the event
of an evacuation of the bus station.
• Do not walk in the bus area at any time.
• Ask one of our customer advisors or security staff if you are unsure
where to go.
• Follow any safety announcements or directions given out
over the bus station public address system.
• Do not leave luggage unattended. Keep your own belongings
with you at all times.

A demand-responsive bus service operates in Upper Wensleydale on Sundays
between 0900 and 2100, providing connections with services 855 and 856 at
Gayle, Hawes, Worton and Aysgarth.
The service covers the following villages:
Garsdale, Appersett, Hardraw, Simonstone, Sedbusk, Askrigg, Woodhall,
Carperby, Countersett, Marsett, Thornton Rust, Thoralby and West Burton.

Cemetery, Adel Divino’s Restaurant and Golden Acre Park, and then at all bus
stops to Ilkley Bus Station.
