MEMBERS NEWS
A little bit of history about Rajah
By Peter Gould
Rajah is the
second
Farr
1020 from the
Sea
Nymph
Boat factory in
1984.
Peter
and Joann are
her
second
owner
and
purchased her in 2012 from Tauranga - now
based in Auckland. When she was purchased
by Hugh Aiken in 1984, he liked the markings
XXX that was on the first boat out of the factory
so he put them on Rajah.
Peter says “She recently has been to the paint
shop and the XXX stays. We get a lot of
comments about it. One of the best decisions
we have made to buy a 1020. .Earlier in the
year we had three weeks away on her - went to
Whangaroa and back”.
Email Farewell from Terry Frankham - Near
& Farr
Just to let you know that we sold our beloved
1020 Near & Farr after a bit over seven
delightful years of ownership; wandering up
and down the coast between Auckland and the
Bay of Islands. However, the time as come for
something a little bigger.
Best wishes for success of the association.
Whilst we are technically no longer owners, I
would like to see out our current year of
membership and remain interested in the half
models if these come to fruition.
Kismet
Kismet sails on Lake Erie, Cleveland Ohio, but
is now hauled out for the winter. Temp. is
about 2°C.

for you.

Wellington. Dan plans to do some harbour
racing and cruising in the beautiful Marlborough

CHANGED BOAT NAME OR OWNERSHIP?
If you boat carries a Yachting New Zealand
registration number then it is wise to advise
them of your change of ownership. The onus is
on you as the new owner to re-register your
Farr in your name.
Why Register your boat with Yachting New
Zealand?
Racing: In order to be eligible for racing, boats
must hold a current Certificate of Registration
ensuring compliance with RRS 76.1 as outlined
on pages 57-58 of the Yachting New Zealand
Racing Rules of Sailing
.
Emergency: Registration is encouraged for
recreational and racing boats for safety and
security reasons, enabling rapid tracing of a
boat in the event of theft, mishap or more
serious maritime emergencies.

For our overseas owners: Please let Yachting
New Zealand know that your 1020 is based
overseas so that they can de-register her
from YNZ’s register and they will note that that
it is now an overseas owned vessel.
How do you do this? Use YNZ’s quick and
easy online registration form

OPEN LETTER TO ALL SAILORS
INTENDING TO VISIT KAWAU
It is that time of the year again when we would
like to take the opportunity to alert your
members of the danger fireworks represent to
Kawau Island and request that you place a
notice in your newsletter and on your noticeboard.
Fire is the greatest threat, fear and danger on
Kawau Island. Due to the extreme fire risk on
Kawau Island and because we want to protect
our homes and native wildlife, we request that
you ask your members not to bring fireworks to
Kawau, nor to set off expired flares for
entertainment purposes, and obviously not to
light any beach fires.
In addition, members may like to diary a fund
raising and fun event to be held in the grounds
of Mansion House, Kawau Island on
Valentine’s Day, February 14th 2015. “Music
in the Gardens” will feature The Jazz Age a
classic jazz ensemble and Miss Georgia Wood,
plus the swing band Sal Valentine and The
Baby Shakes. Local food and wine will be
available, plus there will be stalls (books,
wooden bowls, and crafts) and fun auctions.
This is a fund-raiser for the Kawau Island
Emergency Response Trust which helps
provide our fire-fighting and medical equipment.
Early bird tickets at $20, (which include a
souvenir wine glass and entry into a major raffle
draw) will be available in December for $20
from OPAK (Organizations Passionate about
Kawau). See www.kawauisland.org.nz for
further details.
Yours sincerely,
Ruth E. Henderson, Secretary, Kawau Island
Volunteer Rural Fire Force
All the very best for Christmas and your
