Learn Cyber Security Basics
Don’t want to get hacked? Learn the basics, accept that electronic communications won’t be
100% secure and to be as secure as reasonably possible, be prepared. Here are a few basic
steps which you need to know to improve your cyber security.
1. Things Change; Keep Yourself Updated -This is one of the most important cyber
security basic. To keep secure, regularly update your computer, devices and
applications (apps).
2. Keep Your Passwords Updated -Passwords are at the core of hacking. Hackers either
try to hack your password or exploit some other vulnerability to gain access to
passwords, so make sure that all your passwords are completely random and not
simple like 123456 or password.
3. Never Re-Use Passwords - Never ever use the same password again, either in more
than one account, or again in the same account. When a hacker gets your password,
they immediately try it for every other service people use.
4. Back Things Up and Test The Backup -Do frequent data backups and test them
regularly. This protects your data in the event of an operating system crash,
hardware failure, or virus attack.
5. Scan – Make sure your computer is protected with up-to-date anti-virus and antiadware/malware software.
6. Practice Safe Computing – Don’t ever download anything you are invited to
download from an email or text message unless you trust the source. Download
things when you are pro-actively seeking them and from reputable sources.
7. Don’t Worry, Be Happy – When you get hacked, not if, it’s not the end of the world.
It’s the price we pay for the massively powerful convenience of our interconnected
devices. Try to minimize the disruption, make use of available safeguards, and don’t
worry.
