I think that first of all Japanese people need to understand the obstacles and
problems facing foreign tourists after arriving in Japan. It is true that many road
signs in Japan are written in English or with the English alphabet, but there are
also many places where the signs either do not exist at all or else are written in
Japanese only. This should be fixed. Also, Japanese people need to make greater
efforts to improve their English language ability. Interaction with local people is
the first thing visitors to Japan want to do, and it is only possible if everyone
speaks the same language.

I believe that rural Japan needs to become more accessible to foreign visitors.
Kyoto and Tokyo have been the main attractions for a long time, but now many
foreigners appear to want to see the ‘real’ Japan, meaning the heart of Japanese
culture and traditions and to enjoy soaking in hot springs with the monkeys and
eating home-cooked simple country food. To do this tours and arrangements
need to be made, inns and even homestays need to be organized. This would also
help the local economies of rural Japan and present a kinder and softer side of
Japan to the world. (101 words)
