Electronic digital thermometer Type series GE4 . . . Features ■ Electronic digital thermometer ■ Case and wetted parts of stainless steel ■ Degree of protection IP 67 ■ Quick repsonse time with lasting accuracy ■ Easily read display with either analouge or digital indication ■ Sturdy mechanical design and construction make it suitable for numerous applications ■ Completely maintenance free for the life span of the product, by means of a solar cell or a battery (life span ten years) ■ No mechanical wear (or ageing) Application Currently, for industrial applications, local indicating thermometers are available which work without auxiliary power but which only have an analogue dial available. They are filled with mercury or gas or are constructed as bimetallic thermometers. On account of their extremely low energy consumption in conjunction with a nearly loss-free operating microprocessor, the electronic digital thermometers from LABOM allow an entirely novel measuring device to be realised. The electronic digital thermometer is equipped with a lithium battery as its energy source, and this has an operating lifetime of 10 years. Furthermore, remote thermometers are available. They are easily installed because connection to the sensor and the display unit is made by means of individually adapted connection cables. Techn. The cycle time is 3 seconds, so that the viewer, even in passing, can take a current reading. An activity display (a sun symbol at the start of the display) indicates the measurement cycle. The display The digital thermometer provide a dual display of LCD elements. The original concept for the format of the display was to appear like a traditional dial instrument. A circular arrangement of LCD elements achieves this. This quasi-analogue display allows a rapid interpretation even at extended distances. The exact temperature can be read from the 4 digit segment display. Depending on the range programmed, the display can have a resolution of either 0.1 K or 0.5 K. The constructive design The electronic thermometer consists of a robust assembly in a stainless steel case. To accommodate industrial applications the unit complies the vibration requirements of German Lloyd. The type of proctection is to IP 67 and the electromagnetic interference complies with the requirements of the EC standards. Sensor connections The temperature sensor is a Platinum resistance type Pt 1000. Its signal conditioning is performed by the micro processor. The small size of the sensor chip gives pinpoint positioning in the Dimensions medium by faster response characteristics. The indicator can be positioned close to the sensor or at a distance of up to several meters. Leads can be made to customers requirements. Unsightly loops are then avoided on site. Performance The micro processor conditions the signal resistance of the Pt 1000 with a resolution of 12 bits. The numerical error of measurement is thus less than 1 Kelvin. This fulfills the accuracy requirements for measuring equipment to class 1. Self test After being switched on the device performs an initialization routine. In the process it carries out a self test as well as checking the operation of the sensor and the connections. Sensor monitoring The micro processor continually checks the plausibility of the sensor signal. The result is displayed on the display. Service considerations A significant advantage of our instrument lies in the long term stability of the use of electronics to provide the measurement and by the lack of mechanical components. Integrated diagnostic routines continually check the validity of the sensor output so that a sensor failure can be flagged on the display. Data Sheet: T4-042 Rev. 0D7 Dimensions (cont.)
