Volume 14 Issue 4 2 People of Hope The time of personal decision and commitment is before each one of us in terms of how you will financially choose to support the “Decade of Hope” vision and plan. On Sunday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 9, you are invited to offer your three year “Decade of Hope” pledge to God’s work among us at Hope Lutheran. We truly believe that God is at work in our church as we join with Jesus in reaching out to our community and beyond to encourage all people to know the love of Christ. • We want to be the church that helps more and more people with their soul business so they grow into fully devoted followers of Jesus. • We want to be the church that helps kids grow in faith. • We want to be the church that reaches out to those who are searching and who have not yet experienced a relationship with Christ. • We want to be the church that serves and sacrifices for those in need in our community and the world. • We want to be the church that fulfills its God given mission to make heaven more crowded. People of Hope, We Are That Church! What a privilege and honor it is to join God in his work in this world. Now is the time. So, please pray about your commitment and bring your pledge to worship. • Pledge cards have been mailed to you and are available in the Church Office. • If you are unable to attend worship April 6 or 9, please mail your pledge card or drop it off in the Church Office. • Some have already submitted “Advance Pledges.” If this is true for you, please feel free to join in the congregational celebration by writing on your pledge card, “Advanced\ Pledge Given” and offering it during worship. Every gift given from a faith filled heart matters to God and God’s work through Hope Lutheran Church. Together, we are God’s church! Pastor Chuck Olmstead Your ongoing prayers, for the future of Hope Lutheran asking God to continue to challenge us in mission and ministry so we can fulfill the plans he has for us, are prayers that makes God smile! Life Changing Experience The week in El Salvador with Compassion International was so impactful, so mission focused, so eye opening, so joyful (with a touch of sadness), so energizing and life-giving, and so influential and educational! Our amazing mission team was flexible, fun and open to “out of comfort zone” activities. We had great leadership from Pastor Mike, a world-class interpreter team and a Compassion crew that makes you want to tell everyone you know about Compassion International. Koinonia, our sister church, opened up their doors to us and just leveled us with their world-class hospitality, incredible grace and friendship, inspiring leadership and servant’s example. For anyone that wants to transform their life through “roll up your sleeves”, Christ and kids-focused mission work, you cannot miss the next opportunity to travel to El Salvador. Pastor Mike has folders of children from the area, if you are inspired to sponsor a child. from John Messelt’s blog Preaching Schedule Wed—April 2 NC Pastor Kevan - Generosity: I Have Received God’s Generosity, So I Give. In Jesus, God became human and fully experienced the wide range of emotions we all encounter in life. Jesus experienced times of loneliness, sadness, hurt, anger, disappointment, grief, and abandonment. That is part of being human. Another part of being human is needing help from each other. God never intended us to be completely self-sufficient. Part of God's plan is for each of us to turn to others for help when we need it. So, when you are experiencing difficult times, don't struggle alone. Our Stephen Ministers will walk with you, listen to you, encourage you, pray with you, and provide confidential one-to-one care to help you through tough times. Stephen Ministers can bring the love of Jesus back into your life. To learn more about Stephen Ministry, talk to a Hope Lutheran Pastor or Kim Y., 701-235-6629, x221. At Hope Lutheran Church it is our desire to partner with parents to fulfill the promises they made to their children during baptism. One of those promises is, “to provide for their instruction in the Christian faith.” Fifth grade First Communion Instruction is an opportunity to make good on that promise! All 5th graders and parents are invited to join us for one of the following First Communion Instruction classes (you may choose which session works best for you): • Sunday, April 6, 3:00-5:30pm, North Campus • Sunday, April 13, 3:00-5:30pm, South Campus 8 The instruction will consist of parents and students working together through a variety of hands-on learning stations that will educate the family about how Lutherans recognize the Sacrament of Holy Communion. It is very important for students to attend with a parent/adult. Students: Please remember to bring your Bible! www.fargohope.org Upon completion of an instruction class, students will then be invited to receive their first communion on Thursday, April 17 (Maundy Thursday), during the 7:00pm worship service, both campuses. Following the service, all first communicants and their families are invited to a reception in their honor. If you cannot attend one of these instructional sessions, or if you have questions, please contact Jessica at 2356629, x320 or [email protected]. This seal gave the product a higher standard. God’s Word mentions a seal placed on his people, not to endorse us but to encourage us in our faith walk. Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and has given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. 2 Corinthians1:21-22 When God places his seal on us, it is a guarantee of his spirit in us and his anointing until we’re called home. To receive God’s seal of approval, it only takes admitting we’re sinners and our need to be rescued by him. He made it all possible at the cross. When we choose life with Christ, he places his seal on us. It’s hard to believe this truth when we focus on our mistakes in thought, word and deed. We have to remember that God keeps his word and if he said it, that should settle it. Don’t let the enemy convince you otherwise and cause you to stumble in your covenant witSSh God. God may not approve of our actions, but he always is faithful to his children. We see our deeds, but he sees his children. Our actions don’t always meet with his approval, but the seal lasts. It’s so freeing to know it’s not our actions that make us good enough to receive his approval. It is through our faith in Christ alone. Dear Lord, thank you for your seal of approval on us as evidence of authenticity of our relationship with you. Thank you for this guarantee that encourages us in our faith journey. Amen.
