ICLEA Workshop 2014, 25-28 March ICLEA - Virtual Institute of Integrated Climate and Landscape Evolution Analyses The organisers, Institute of Botany and Landscape Ecology & Institute of Geography and Geology, University of Greifswald as well as the project coordination in Potsdam are pleased to welcome around 60 participants with 44 poster presentations for the upcoming annual ICLEA Workshop in Greifswald-Wieck. Workshop Venue is the Majuwi (Maritimes Jugenddorf: www.majuwi.de) in the harbour and fishing village of Wieck, just outside Greifswald. Address: Yachtweg 3, 17493 Greifswald/Wieck, Germany (attached map). Free WLAN is available in the lecture hall. Accommodation: ICLEA members will stay in the Majuwi, your rooms are reserved. In your rooms you have to pay for WLAN. Our invited Scientific Advisory Board members will stay in the Hotel “Zur Brücke”. Address: An der Mühle 6, 17493 Greifswald, Germany (attached map). Costs: The workshop fee for ICLEA members will be 230 € per person (double room) and 245 € (single room) and covers full board at the Majuwi, excursions, bus transfers and events. The fee for ICLEA members from Greifswald who will not stay the night at the Majuwi is 140 €. We kindly ask you to pay the workshop fee in advance. Here some important facts and hints: Please be aware that snow is possible and chilly weather probable at the Baltic coast in the end of March. But we keep our fingers crossed! March, 25 (Tuesday): The workshop starts at 14:30 with lectures. You are kindly requested to plan your arrival, check in at the Majuwi, and install your posters between 13:00 and 14:30. At 14:00 a small picnic will be prepared. At 20:00 an ICLEA public lecture will be given by Thomas Terberger (Hannover) – ‘Neolithic revolution’ in the North? New insights into the transition from late hunter-gatherers to early farmers in the western Baltic at the Pommersches Landesmuseum in the heart of Greifswald. A transfer by bus will be organized. The lecture will be given in German to English slides. March, 26 (Wednesday): Between 15:30‐18:30 a short excursion to the field sites of WP3 (Eldena Forest) takes place. For the excursions you need field wear (sturdy shoes, rain jacket). March, 27 (Thursday): At 19:00 we will celebrate our official ICLEA Dinner at the Majuwi. Afterwards we will come together at the old students club ‘GeoKeller’ (Jahn-Str. 16). At 21:00 a transfer by bus will be organized. March, 28 (Friday): Check out will be in the early morning around 7:00. The excursion to Rügen Island starts at 7:30 by bus. Car drivers can follow the bus to Stralsund (parking there and switch to the bus), since the connection for your home travel across the Autobahn A20 is (a little) faster from Stralsund than from Greifswald. The excursion halts around 16:30 in Stralsund and finishes around 17:00 at Majuwi in Greifswald. Final Circular 3. German language in oral presentation and discussion is possible in exceptional cases. Language for poster and presentation slides is English in general. Oral: For each work package the WP leaders will give brief overview talks (15 min) and we invite you for intensive discussions (15 min). Additionally, synthesis talks will either introduce ongoing research cooperation between work packages or stimulate such cooperation. Poster: Posters will be shortly introduced by the author in max. 5 min (3 slides). We want to prepare a single power-point file for each WP including all individual slides for all poster presentations. Therefore, we kindly ask you to send your three slides (ppt format) latest on Friday, March 23 to Markus Schwab ([email protected]). All posters will be on display during the whole workshop and available for discussion at any time. Travel: By train to Greifswald Hauptbahnhof (Hbf.): In Greifswald take bus line 2 from the main bus station (ZOB, on the left when you leave the train station) to Wieck/Brücke (between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm every 15 min). Leave the bus at the station Wieck/Brücke. From there, Majuwi is just 200 m on the right side of the river behind the wooden bridge (see attached map).
