Biocrates Life Sciences AG enables researchers to run
targeted metabolomics projects that yield better and faster
results. Biocrates´ standardized, quantitative metabolomics kits
and related services provide higher throughput, and higher
reproducibility.
The company’s technology is mass-spectrometry-based. It has
enabled developing the first positively predictive biomarker
panel for response to HER-2 positive breast cancer therapy,
(Miolo et al., 2016) as well as the first blood based biomarker
signature to predict Alzheimer’s Disease (Mapstone et al.,
2014).
The technology is suitable for use in every stage of
pharmaceutical research, with published examples including:
- Mode of action studies
- Preclinical and clinical toxicology
- Translational pharmacodynamics studies
- Prediction and assessment of treatment response.
Biocrates‘ analytical portfolio covers pathways that are relevant
to major areas of disease and pharmaceutical research (e.g.
diabetes, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases). The technology
is designed to be easily transferable between research and
development stages.
Mission
We serve customers with first-class metabolomics solutions by
providing standardized and quality-controlled research and
diagnostic kits which enables systematic quantification of many
classes of biological relevant metabolites in cells, tissues, or
clinically relevant fluids.
At our Services Center we make our know-how also available to
any partners in the industry and academic sector. Additionally,
we develop customized research assays to suit your specific
research requirements.

Combining the knowledge of related “omics” disciplines, like
genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics, metabolomics
opens the unique chance being closer to the phenotype than
ever before and will lead for the first time to a comprehensive
understanding of biochemical pathways in life systems. It also
allows the identification of biological markers, which can serve
as early disease indicators as well as therapeutic markers for
the evaluation of treatment effects.
Targeted Metabolic Phenotyping
In a single run the unique Biocrates technology platform (kits
and in-house services) measures 186 predefined endogenous
metabolites: quantitatively, reproducibly, and quality controlled.
The spectrum of metabolites (analyte classes: amino acids,
biogenic amines, acylcarnitines, hexoses and three classes of
lipids) allows a comprehensive metabolic view of various
diseases by covering the most important physiological and
pathophysiological pathways in a single mass spectrometric
run. For further analysis Biocrates offers in-house analysis
service, assaying more than 630 endogenous metabolites (e.g.
energy metabolism, lipids, prostaglandins, oxysterols), also run
quantitatively and with quality control. Biocrates’ targeted
solutions can be used with a wide range of species and
biological matrices. All assays and kits are run on Mass
Spectrometry instruments of various vendors.

Biocrates products are applicable for in depth investigations in
many fields of basic and applied research: The 186 metabolites
of the AbsoluteIDQ® p180 Kit constitute a wide spectrum of
processes relevant to systems biology – from chronic
metabolic, cardio vascular and immunological diseases to
oncology, endometriosis, transplant rejection, and
neurodegenerative diseases. The reproducible quantitative
approach, applicable to epidemiology and longitudinal
investigations, appears to be central to producing clinically
relevant metabolic signatures.
