Right now, you can watch VIERTEL ZWEI grow!
Work at the construction site along Trabrennstraße is progressing briskly, with the buildings
beginning to take shape.
In March of next year, new residents will
begin arriving to make the neighbourhood even more lively: 350 students will
be moving into the new MILESTONE
House in time for the summer semester.
Work on that building is farthest along,
while you can still watch the residential
buildings of the RONDO project grow
floor by floor.

Derzeit kann man dem VIERTEL ZWEI beim
Wachsen zusehen! Die Arbeiten auf der Baustelle
entlang der Trabrennstraße gehen zügig voran und
die Gebäude nehmen Form an.
Im März nächsten Jahres werden die
ersten neuen Bewohner das Viertel beleben: 350 Studenten werden rechtzeitig
zum Start des Sommersemesters in das
neue MILESTONE Haus einziehen.
Daher sind bei diesem Gebäude die
Arbeiten am weitesten fortgeschritten,
während man etwa bei den Wohngebäuden des Projekts RONDO derzeit noch
beobachten kann, wie ein Stockwerk auf
das nächste gesetzt wird.
Der große, zentrale Platz direkt gegenüber der WU zeichnet sich schon heute
ab. Obgleich noch Baumaterial gelagert
wird, kann man sich bereits vorstellen,
wie es sein wird, hier nach der Arbeit
auf einen Drink mit Kollegen am Springbrunnen zu sitzen.

Above all else,

“VERTICAL GREEN” BUILDING
The STUDIO ZWEI building quite literally brings home the natural surroundings of the directly adjacent park, the
Green Prater. And in doing so, we’ve
completely rethought the concept of
“vertical green”: here, a layer of plants
in addition to the building’s actual façade
creates an open green space for residents to experience.
This green façade is far more than just
decoration—it also helps to save energy.
During the summer months, the plants
blossom and grow, providing shade that
cools the façade. During winter, the
plants let through more light—allowing
the façade to absorb more warmth while
still providing extra insulation. And
it goes without saying that the plants
also improve quality of life—turning
balconies into private gardens with a

Der Skulpturenpark im VIERTEL ZWEI
„Total living“ steht knallig in rosaroten
Buchstaben am Ende der Terrasse des
LOFT ZWEI – eine Installation von
Marco Lulić. Aus dem Wasser ragt eine
Bronzeskulptur von Tom Burr. Der
Copper Hopper, ein Bronzehase von
Stephanie Taylor, sitzt auf einem der
grünen Hügel am Ufer und überblickt die
Szenerie. Auf der gegenüberliegenden
Seite des Sees hat Hans Weigand seine
„Wellenbrecher“ platziert.
In den letzten Jahren ist im VIERTEL
ZWEI rund um den See eine öffentlich
begehbare Galerie entstanden. Die
Köpfe hinter der Idee, Künstler mit ihren Projekten ins Viertel zu holen, sind
Galeristin Gabriele Senn und Immobilienentwickler Michael Griesmayr. Der
Skulpturenpark soll das Viertel auch außerhalb der Bürozeiten beleben und bei
Besuchern für überraschende Momente
sorgen. Die Werke von österreichischen
und internationalen Künstlern sind aber
nur der Anfang: Der Skulpturenpark soll
künftig mit dem Viertel wachsen.

The Sculpture Garden
at VIERTEL ZWEI
The words “TOTAL LIVING”, written
in bright pink-red letters, stand at the
end of LOFT ZWEI’s lakeside deck—
they’re an installation by Marco Lulić.
Out of the water rises a bronze sculpture
by Tom Burr. The Copper Hopper, a
bronze rabbit by Stephanie Taylor, sits
enthroned on one of the green mounds
on the bank, overlooking the scenery.
And on the lake’s opposite bank, you
can see Hans Weigand’s Wellenbrecher
[Wave-Breaker].
The past few years have witness the
creation of a publicly accessible sculpture garden around the lake at VIERTEL
ZWEI. The idea of bringing artists and
their projects into the neighbourhood
came from gallerist Gabriele Senn and
real estate developer Michael Griesmayr.
This sculpture garden is meant to enliven VIERTEL ZWEI outside of office
hours and to provide some surprising
encounters for visitors. And the present
works by Austrian and foreign sculptors
are just the beginning: in the future, the
sculpture garden is set to grow along
with the neighbourhood.

„EIN GUTES BÜRO MÜSSEN

Das sagt Erwan Bouroullec, Möbeldesigner aus Paris.
Gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder Ronan designt Erwan
Möbelstücke und Designelemente,
die aus einem Büro besagten Wald machen.
Erwan muss es wissen, denn gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder zählt er zu
den einflussreichsten Gestaltern für
Büromobiliar. Ein Wald also. Doch in
diesem Fall ist nicht die Arbeit an der
frischen Luft oder die Natur als Inspirationsquelle gemeint. Es geht vielmehr
darum, einen Ort zu schaffen, der für
jeden Bereich sowie für jede Tätigkeit
die passende Umgebung und Ausstattung bereithält: „Offene Lichtungen“
für den Austausch und „moosige Niederungen in abgeschiedenen Ecken“,
wenn man ungestört sein möchte. Der
Arbeitstag ist wie eine Wanderung, bei
der man intuitiv das Plätzchen findet,
das man gerade braucht, um seine
Arbeit zu erledigen. Eine schöne Vorstellung von einem Arbeitsplatz, die
immer mehr Unternehmen versuchen,
in die Realität umzusetzen.
Moder ne Bürostr ukturen müssen
flexibel sein, um sich der beständig
verändernden Arbeitswelt anzupassen.
Diese Flexibilität betrifft nicht nur
die räumlichen Strukturen, auch der
zeitliche Faktor wird zunehmend von

A NEW WAY OF WORKING:
“A GOOD OFFICE NEEDS TO BE IMAGINED
AS A MYSTERIOUS PRIMAL FOREST.”
These words come from Paris-based furniture
designer Erwan Bouroullec. .
Together with Ronan Bouroullec, his
brother, Erwan creates furniture and design elements that turn an office into just
such a forest. It’s a claim that Erwan has
every right to make, because together
with his brother, he numbers among today’s most influential designers of office
furniture. So a forest it is. But it doesn’t
mean working outdoors—or nature as
a source of on-the-job inspiration. It’s
more about creating a place that provides the appropriate environment and
amenities for every area and every type
of work. “Open clearings” for interaction
and “mossy hollows in isolated corners”
when you want to remain undisturbed.
The workday becomes like a hike on
which you intuitively gravitate towards
whatever place you need at any given
moment in order to get things done. It’s a
pleasing vision of a workplace that more
and more companies are attempting to
realise.
Modern office structures need to be
flexible to adapt to the changing world
of work. It’s about more than just how
space is used: the factor of time, too, is
separating more and more from concrete
structures. The present-day ability to be
reachable always and everywhere, especially online, has caused the office to lose
some of its significance as a place. So for
office planners, the topic of well-being
at the workplace is becoming increasingly important—as is the ever-current
question of just what an ideal office is.
Office furniture producer Steelcase has
likewise examined this theme in-depth
and defined six dimensions of workplace
well-being that make for a positive working environment:
OPTIMISM: fostering creativity
and innovation
MINDFULNESS: fully engaged
AUTHENTICITY: really yourself
BELONGING: connecting to others
MEANING: a sense of purpose
VITALITY: get-up-and-go
multitude of ways of working so that
everyone can find exactly the working
environment they need. This has to do
with the spaces themselves, people’s
working styles, and the concept of presence. Steelcase defines the ideal office
as being “An ecosystem of interrelated
zones and settings that provide users
with a range of spaces that support their
various modes of work.”

In mehr als 30 Metropolen weltweit
heißt es auch wieder: OPEN HOUSE!
In Wien 2016 schon zum dritten Mal:
von 10. bis 11. September. Volle 2 Tage
lang haben Interessierte die Möglichkeit,
kostenlos mehr als 80 Gebäude in Wien
zu besichtigen und neue Seiten der
Stadt zu entdecken, durch Grätzel zu
flanieren oder neue Gegenden Wiens
besser kennen zu lernen. OPEN HOUSE
bietet Einblicke in Privatwohnungen
und -häuser, Bildungseinrichtungen,
Büros, Gewerbe- und Industriebauten.
Alles, was man dafür braucht: Zeit und
Neugier!
Das VIERTEL ZWEI ist auch im heurigen Jahr wieder dabei, und bietet die
Chance LOFT ZWEI – das Backsteingebäude am See – oder etwa die Baustelle zu besichtigen. Außerdem Teil des
Programms: die Zentrale der OMV im
Gebäude HOCH ZWEI sowie die WU
gleich nebenan.
In over 30 big cities around the world, it
was recently once again time for OPEN
HOUSE! 2016 witnessed Vienna’s third
such event, which took place from 10
to 11 September. For a full two days,
interested parties had the opportunity
to tour over 80 buildings in Vienna …
discovering new aspects of the city,
strolling through neighbourhoods, and
getting to know new areas better. The
OPEN HOUSE event offers glimpses
into private apartments and buildings,
educational institutions, offices, and
commercial and industrial structures.
All visitors need to bring along is time
and curiosity!
VIERTEL ZWEI participated again this
year, offering the opportunity to visit
LOFT ZWEI—the brick building by the
lake—and/or the construction site. Also
on the program were OMV headquarters
in the building HOCH ZWEI along with
the adjacent University of Economics
and Business.
