今から350年前の「ロンドン大火」“The Great Fire of London“によって、中世都市ロンドンは焼失しました。
しかしながらそれにより、今日に続く新しいロンドンシティーが形成されたと言われています。
6月のＥＵ離脱の国民投票の決定に、世界中が衝撃を受けました。「ロンドン大火」からの復興を足掛
かりに、マイケル先生に今の英国を解説していただきます。
（＊Brexitとは、Britain/British(英国)とexit(離脱)を合わせた造語）
350 years ago this year a fire started in a London bakery that spread until it engulfed St Paul’s
Cathedral and 13,600 homes. Yet this disaster made space for a new city, designed on neoclassical
lines by the architectural genius, Christopher Wren; it is his beautiful new London that we see in the
City of London today.
In this salon, we shall learn about the fire, and about Wren's beautiful new city – a city now cheap
to visit, as the shock result of the BREXIT vote has sent the pound to record lows. We shall also look
ahead at the path of the BREXIT, and why the pound will surely stay low for some time.
