Nicht hier, nicht da?
Das Jugendprogramm beim GOLDENEN SPATZ schaut in diesem Jahr in viele Richtungen. Es blickt zurück in das Jugendalter nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg.
Es schaut in das Leben junger Frauen, die aus der Bahn geraten sind und doch ein ganz besonderes Gespür für eine persönliche Balance entwickeln. Es
blickt auf das Dilemma junger Männer, die zwischen Freunden und Familie, zwischen tristem Alltag und fantastischen Computerwelten gefangen scheinen. Dabei geht es vom dänischen Strand in der Nachkriegszeit zurück in die Gegenwart nach Wien. Es geht von der Realität in die Virtualität und von
Bits und Bytes zurück zu handfesten Konflikten. Mal bieten die Jugendfilme einen fesselnden und erschütternden Realismus, mal einen humorvollen oder
bedrohlichen Surrealismus. So vielfältig die Stimmungen, Erzählformen und Themen dieser vier Spielfilme und zwei Kurzfilme sein mögen, meistens
drehen sie sich um die Erkenntnis, dass Erwachsenwerden bedeutet, Verantwortung zu übernehmen und darin seine Eigenständigkeit zu finden. Allen
Filmen gemeinsam ist auch, dass sie ihre Motive aus überraschenden Perspektiven und mit frischer Ästhetik vermitteln. NICHT HIER, NICHT DA – dieser
Titel des Kurzfilms von Jan Wagner könnte wie ein Motto über dem ganzen Programm stehen, weil es die Zerrissenheit der jugendlichen Protagonisten so
wunderbar beschreibt. Doch so viel kann man verraten: Die meisten dieser Figuren finden ihren Weg, um bei sich selber anzukommen.

Neither here nor there?
This year the young people’s programme at the GOLDEN SPARROW will be looking in many directions. It looks back to being a youngster after the Second
World War. It takes a look at the lives of young women who have lost their way, but then develop a very special awareness of personal integrity. It looks at
the dilemma of young men who seem caught between friends and family, between their dismal everyday lives and fantastic online worlds. In the process
we go from a Danish beach in post-war years back into the present in Vienna. We move from reality into a virtual world and from bits and bytes back to
concrete conflicts. Sometimes the young people’s films present a gripping, shocking realism, sometimes a humorous or threatening surrealism. Diverse
as the moods, narrative forms and themes of these four feature films and two shorts may be, they usually centre on the realization that growing up means
taking on responsibility and finding independence in the process. Another common feature of all these films is the way they examine their subjects from
surprising perspectives and with an innovative aesthetic approach. NEITHER HERE NOR THERE – this title of the short film by Jan Wagner could be a
heading, even a motto for the whole programme, as it describes so well the youthful protagonists’ sense of being torn and confused. But we can disclose
this much: most of the characters find a way forward, and come to know themselves as a result.
