January, 1991 Michio HIRAMATSU This study presents an analysis of fins used in compact heat exchangers for automobiles and room air conditioners. For the practical application of the fins to heat exchangers, suitable it is essential to select fin configurations among the various types of fins, such as louverd fins, offset fins, and others. The heat transfer performance, using fins having an interrupted wall, is usually found to be influenced by the laminar boundary layer. Significant heat transfer enhancement can be achieved as the result of the leading edge effects of the boundary layer over the louvers. In order to inverstigate how the boundary layer affects the heat transfer performance in aceordance with the arrangement of louvers, extensive numerieal caiculations heve been grid system has been proposed such performed. A novel numerical. schemed hased on an oblique that various types of fins such as louvered fins can be handled without any difficulties associated with ordinary rectangular grids. A parametric study has been performed for the investigation of the characteristics of ftuid flow and heat transfer on louvered fins with various configuration factors, such as fin pitch, louver pitch and louver angle. As the result, it has been found that the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics can be characterized by a single non-dimensional parameter, formed in terms of the fin pitch, louver pitch and louver ang1e, Thus, the optimum vaLue of the parameter for the maximum heat transfer coefficcent has been determined. 一-182-―
