• Asking & Giving Permission to do something

– Negative answer: ～てはいけません・～てはいけない・

– Literally “even if I do this is it good?”
• Requesting that SOMEONE ELSE do something
– ～てください (polite) or just plain ～て (informal)
– Uber polite: ～てくださいませんか？
– Very closely related to ～くれる：you can also say ～てくれ
ませんか？ For the same effect
– Pretty much only used for making requests—either asking
someone to please do something, or asking for a specific
thing (～をください)
