stem of the verb is.

Talking about activities and events,
using ～で～があります
We learned last semester that あります is
used when we want to locate an object.

In this chapter, we find that we can use it to
tell about the place of an event. This time
we must use the particle で.

先生のうちでパーティがあります。
Note that で is used to mark the place where
an EVENT is held, where に is used to
mark the location of an OBJECT.

Final Oral
For the final, you will sign up in pairs and will present a
skit that includes the following activities:
1. Inviting your partner to do something.
2. Going to a restaurant and ordering.
3. Going shopping at a department store.
Your skit should not be longer than 5 minutes. But it
should be about 5 minutes. I will be grading harder than
in the past because this is your final. You must prove to
me that you have the material down. Each person must
demonstrate this.

• You call your Japanese friend’s house
to invite him/her to go to a restaurant
and shopping. You must use the
appropriate phrases for making the

men’s/women’s clothing or the department
with stationary and notebooks. You must do

Ask for a different color or size

You will receive a slip of paper with a day of the
week on it. This is the day you are free. In the
blank, fill in an activity (such as seeing a movie,
going for a picnic, shopping….) that you would
like to do. Find someone who also has the same
day free and negotiate what you will do. This
means you could do both activities or just one.
Work out the details such as where to go, what
time, where to meet etc. You have minutes to
