1. “From Material Culture to Maker Culture: how to access technology objects in museums”
2. “The Communicate gallery of National Museums Scotland”
概要：
Objects found in museums often appear dead. It is the museums’ responsibility to bring them
back to life. But how do we do this? Exploring archival sources, speaking to witnesses and,
of course, exploring objects themselves are essential ways to understand them. But how do we
move forward and open the hidden contexts and understand the embedded historic knowledge?
During the first part of this presentation I will explore familiar and new ways to access and
understand machine tools in the collections of National Museums Scotland. During the second
part of my talk I will present our new gallery of communication technology as one case study.
I will show how we have moved from a previous focus on ‘material culture’ to something more
meaningful called ‘maker culture’.
