Torben Jürgens, Bass
Torben Jürgens was born in Hagen, Germany and studied at the Music Academy in
Cologne and at the Folkwang University Essen with Reinhard Leisenheimer and JanHendrik Rootering.
His first long-time engagement took him from 2009 to 2012 to Theater Bielefeld, where
he has been engaged for roles like Leporello (DON GIOVANNI), Basilio (THE BARBER
OF SEVILLE) and Publio (LA CLEMENZA DI TITO).
Since 2012 he has been a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where is singing
the great Mozart bass-baritone roles like Figaro (THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO),
Leporello (DON GIOVANNI) and Sprecher (THE MAGIC FLUTE). Other roles have been
Mattis in the premiere of Jörn Arnecke`s opera RONJA RÄUBERTOCHTER, Ariodates
in Stefan Herheim`s staging of XERXES, Ratcliffe (BILLY BUDD), Pistola (FALSTAFF)
and many others.
He also made guest appearances at numerous prestigious opera houses and festivals,
including the Glyndebourne Festival, the Handel Festival Göttingen, the Bavarian State
Opera and at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
In addition, Torben is also in demand as a fine concert singer and was among other
things, at the Rheingau Music Festival, the International Bach Academy in Stuttgart, the
Beethoven Festival in Bonn, and at Tonhalle Dusseldorf.
He collaborated with such conductors as Vladimir Jurowski, Sir Neville Marriner, Adam
Fischer, Helmuth Rilling, Asher Fisch and Ralf Weikert and with orchestras such as the
Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the WDR Radio Orchestra, the London Philharmonic
Orchestra and the Basel Symphony Orchestra.
Future projects include, among others, his debut as Un Frate (DON CARLO) and again
Mozart's Figaro and Sprecher at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Haydn's THE SEASONS
with the Bergisch Symphony Orchestra and his debut at the Teatro Real Madrid as
Death in Ullmann's DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS in June 2016.
