Kurzbeschreibung:
Was ist Entwicklung? Welche Rolle spielt der Staat in der (Unter-)Entwicklung von
Gesellschaften und Ökonomien in Afrika und Asien? Weshalb haben sich in Teilen Nordund Südostasiens „Entwicklungsstaaten“ herausgebildet, kaum aber in Afrika? Lassen sich
vorteilhafte Rahmenbedingungen und -politiken zwischen und innerhalb von Regionen
transferieren? Wo liegen vorkoloniale, koloniale und postkoloniale Merkmale von
Staatlichkeit und Staatskapazität, welche relevant für soziökonomische Entwicklung
erscheinen? Diese Fragen stehen im Zentrum der Veranstaltung. Der Schwerpunkt des
Seminars liegt auf der Erarbeitung, kritischen Diskussion und Vertiefung neuerer
theoretischer Ansätze und Befunde der empirisch-vergleichenden Politischen Ökonomie des
subsaharischen Afrikas und Ostasiens.
Leistungsnachweis:
(1) Regelmäßige Teilnahme (maximal 2x unentschuldigte Abwesenheit ist unschädlich),
aktive Mitarbeit und Lektüre der empfohlenen Fachliteratur.
(2) Referat (30 Minuten) sowie gegebenenfalls Einführung und Moderation der Diskussion
(2 Leistungspunkte).
(3) Anfertigung einer großen Hausarbeit (15 Seiten Text + Deckblatt, Abstract,
Anmerkungen, Literatur, Tabellen & Schaubilder) in diesem Seminar (6

Leistungspunkte) und Anfertigung einer kleinen wissenschaftlichen Hausarbeit im
anderen Seminar des Moduls (6 Seiten + Deckblatt + Abstract + Anmerkungen +
Literatur + Tabellen/Schaubilder) (2 Leistungspunkte)
(4) oder Anfertigung einer kleinen wissenschaftlichen Hausarbeit in diesem Seminar und
