Jeder ist an Karneval verkleidet. Man fällt auf, wenn man nur normal angezogen ist! Was jedoch „verkleidet“ heißt, ist sehr flexibel. So ist es schon genug, sich einfach einen lustigen Hut oder ein anderes Accessoire anzuziehen. Diese könnt ihr einfach selber machen und zum Beispiel im Kaufhof oder beim Karnevalsdiscount auf der Himmelgeister Straße kaufen. Fancy costumes are a must during carnival! Everyone wears costumes during carnival and you will stick out of the crowd, if you wear normal clothes. There is no strict rule for what a proper costume is, though. You can simply wear a funny hat or some other special accessory. You craft make them yourself or buy them at Kaufhof or at the costume discount shop on Himmelgeisterstraße. November und wird nach Karneval am Aschermittwoch wieder beerdigt. Er steht als Symbol für den Karneval allgemein. Prinzenpaar This couple is made up of a prince and his Venetia. During carnival season, they „reign“ over the „Jecken“ and spread fun and happiness. Hoppeditz The Hoppeditz awakens on November 11th (when carnival starts) and is buried on „Aschermittwoch“ (the last day of carvinal). He symbolizes carnival. 04. Februar 2016 Der Donnerstag wird auch „Altweiber“ genannt. Die Jecken stürmen das Rathaus und entmachten den Bürgermeister. Das Fest beginnt! Gefeiert wird dann in der ganzen Altstadt. Vor allem aber auf dem Marktplatz und in der Bolkerstraße ist ab 11.11 Uhr Party. Gegen Abend feiert man dann eher in Clubs oder Bars weiter. The party starts! People celebrate during the whole day in the Altstadt. Especially at the Marktplatz and on the Bolkerstraße you can party starting at 11.11 am. In the evening people continue the party inside clubs and bars, but the streets are still crowded. 05. – 06. Februar 2016 Am Freitag und am Samstag gibt es keine offiziellen Veranstaltungen der Stadt, wo sich ganz Düsseldorf trifft. Es gibt viele kleinere Partys und Karnevalsveranstaltungen in Bars, Kneipen oder Clubs. Schaut einfach, was ihr so mitbekommt und wo ihr feiern möchtet. Merkt euch aber: Wenn ihr auf eine Karnevalsparty geht, sind Verkleidungen immer erwünscht. Die jüngeren Leute treffen sich dann alle vor dem Schauspielhaus, um dort bis in den Abend weiter zu feiern. „To see and to be seen“ – That‘s Sunday’s theme. Starting at about 11 am, most inhabitants of Düsseldorf meet on the Königsallee. There are stalls that sell food and drinks, but you should better bring your own things. Then you walk along the Kö and celebrate with your friends and family – that‘s loads of fun! The younger people mainly meet in front of the Schauspielhaus to celebrate until the evening. 08. Februar 2016 Der Rosenmontagszug ist der Abschluss der jecken Tage. Vom Rhein in die Altstadt, über die KÖ und zum Bilk S zieht der „Zoch“ in diesem Jahr. Für die Kinder werden „Kamelle“ geworfen, also viele bunte Süßigkeiten. Außerdem interessant: Viele satirische Wagen machen sich über Politiker oder aktuelle Probleme lustig. Ohne Gnade! Keine Glasflaschen An vielen Orten sind an Karneval Glasflaschen verboten. Schaut also, dass ihr entweder Dosen mitnehmt oder Plastikflaschen! Köln Zwar ist der Karneval in Düsseldorf am Schönsten, aber auch in Köln ist etwas los. In der Tat ist dort noch einmal alles etwas größer als hier. Also: Sicherlich eine Erfahrung wert! Aber Achtung: In Köln ruft man nicht „Helau“, sondern „Alaaf“! No GlassBottles In many places it is forbidden to bring drinks in glass bottles during carnival because the glass can be dangerous in large crowds. You might bring cans or plastic bottles instead. Cologne Although the carnival celebrations in Düsseldorf are the best, there is a lot going on in Cologne as well. It is all a bit bigger than in Düsseldorf. Spendig a day there is definitely worth it! Be carefull: In Cologne they say „Alaaf“ instead of „Helau“.
