Juniorprofessur (W1) für Sound Studies

Am Musikwissenschaftlichen Institut der Philosophischen Fakultät der
Universität zu Köln ist zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine
Juniorprofessur (W1) für Sound Studies
(ohne Tenure Track)
zu besetzen.
Der Gegenstandsbereich der Professur umfasst die elektroakustische Musik, ihre
Geschichte und Werkanalyse, aktuelle Sound-Technologien in ihrer künstlerischen
Verwendung, Grenzbereiche des Musikalischen (Sounddesign, Geräuschkunst,
Klanginstallationen), Audiovisualität sowie Radiokunst und akustische Kunst unter
Einschluss entsprechender theoretischer Ansätze. Zu den Aufgaben gehört darüber
hinaus die Betreuung des Klangstudios mit dem Archiv multiphoner
elektroakustischer Kompositionen seit 1950 und der dazugehörigen MehrkanalAnlagen. Erwartet wird zudem die Mitwirkung am Forschungsprojekt Komposition
und Musikwissenschaft im Dialog mit dem Konzertzyklus Raum-Musik.
Der/Die StelleninhaberIn soll zugleich neueren wissenschaftlichen und künstlerischen
Entwicklungen wie Acoustic Ecology, Digital Art, Game Studies und Interactive Audio
Rechnung tragen und damit den Brückenschlag zu den beiden benachbarten
Disziplinen der Fächergruppe 1 (Kunstgeschichte, Medienkultur und Theater)
gewährleisten.
Es wird Mitwirkung in der Lehre in den Studiengängen des Musikwissenschaftlichen
Instituts sowie im neu zu konzipierenden MA inter artes erwartet.
Im dritten Jahr nach Dienstantritt ist eine Zwischenevaluation vorgesehen, auf deren
Grundlage über eine Verlängerung um weitere drei Jahre entschieden wird. Das
Lehrdeputat
umfasst
vier
Semesterwochenstunden
in
der
ersten
Qualifizierungsphase sowie fünf Semesterwochenstunden in der zweiten
Qualifizierungsphase.
Es gelten die Einstellungsvoraussetzungen des § 36 des Hochschulgesetzes NRW.

The Institute of Musicology, University of Cologne, Germany, is seeking
applications for the position of a
Junior Professor (W1) in Sound Studies
(non-tenure track)
starting as soon as possible.
The scope of this professorship encompasses electroacoustic music, its history and
analysis, the artistic use of recent sound technologies, and related areas such as
sound design, noise art, sound installations, audiovisuality, as well as radio art,
acoustic art, and relevant theoretical approaches. Duties include the supervision of
the sound studio with its archive of multi-channel electroacoustic compositions since
1950 and its multi-channel sound systems. In addition, applicants are expected to
cooperate in the ongoing research project Komposition und Musikwissenschaft im
Dialog (Composition and Musicology in Dialogue) and the concert cycle Raum-Musik
(Space–Music).
Applicants should take account of more recent scientific and artistic developments
such as acoustic ecology, digital art, game studies and interactive audio and thus
establish a link to the partner disciplines History of Art and Media Culture and
Theater.
Teaching duties will be assigned within the BA and MA programs in Musicology and
the MA program inter artes, which is currently being developed.
In the third year after the appointment there will be an interim evaluation. On the
basis of this evaluation, the contract may be renewed for three more years. The
teaching load is four semester hours in the first qualification phase and five semester
hours in the second qualification phase.
Applicants will be hired in concordance with § 36 of the University Law of the State of
North-Rhine Westphalia.
