Verwaist von Geburt an und von Störchen großgezogen, glaubt der Spatz
Richard, er sei einer von ihnen. Doch als die Zeit des Abflugs nach Afrika
gekommen ist, muss ihm seine Familie seine wahre Identität offenbaren
und ihn im Wald zurücklassen, da er die Reise nicht überstehen würde. Um
zu beweisen, dass er wirklich ein Storch ist, wagt sich Richard allein nach
Afrika. Doch nur mit der Hilfe von Olga, einer exzentrischen Eule mit imaginärem Freund, und dem ewig singenden, narzisstischen Wellensittich Kiki
hat der kleine Spatz die Chance, sein Ziel zu erreichen.
Orphaned from birth and brought up by storks, sparrow Richard believes
that he is one of them. But when the time comes to migrate to Africa, his
family is obliged to reveal his true identity to him. They leave him behind in
the forest because he would not survive the journey. To prove that he is
really a stork, Richard dares to set out for Africa alone. But it is only with
the help of Olga, an excentric owl with an imaginary friend, and the continually singing, narcissistic budgie Kiki that the little sparrow has any
chance to reach his destination.
Statement der Produzentin:
„RICHARD DER STORCH basiert auf einer Originalgeschichte von Reza Memari. 2008 lernte ich Reza kennen und seine Idee des kleinen Spatzen
Richards. In Deutschland sind die meisten Animationsfilme Adaptionen
bekannter Marken oder Kinderbücher und an Kinder im Vorschulalter gerichtet. Als wir unseren Film entwickelten, wollten wir zwei Dinge beweisen:
Erstens, dass wir mit einer Original-Geschichte kommerziell erfolgreich
sein können, und zweitens, dass Family-Entertainment als Zielgruppe
funktioniert. Aus einer Idee wurden ein Treatment und schließlich ein
Drehbuch. Sehr früh hatten wir dabei starke Partner und Förderer, so dass
dieses kleine unbekannte Projekt aus Berlin zu einer europäischen Koproduktion mit fünf Studios in vier Ländern und einem neun Millionen Euro
Budget wachsen konnte. Unser Film ist zurzeit mitten im Entstehungsprozess und wird im Frühjahr 2016 fertig sein.“
Producer’s statement:
“RICHARD THE STORK is based on an original story by Reza Memari. I met
Reza in 2008, and so encountered the story of Richard, the little sparrow.
In Germany most animation films are adaptations of well-known brands or
children’s books and aimed at children of pre-school age. As we were developing our film, we were aiming to demonstrate two things: first, that we
could achieve commercial success with an original story, and second, that
family entertainment also works as a target group. The idea became a
treatment and finally a script. We had some powerful partners and sponsors from the beginning, so that this small, obscure project from Berlin
was able to grow into a European coproduction with five studios in four
countries and a nine-million-euro budget. Meanwhile, our film is in the
middle of the production process and will be completed in spring 2016.“

Geboren 1976 im Iran. Nach seinem
Studium tätig als Kommunikationswirt in München und als PR- und Produkt-Manager bei der Videospielefirma
Acclaim Entertainment GmbH. Nach
seinem Umzug nach Berlin hat er
verschiedene Kurzfilme geschrieben,
inszeniert, geschnitten und produziert.
Mit RICHARD DER STORCH war Reza Memari beim Internationalen Trickfilmfestival in Stuttgart 2009 für das beste deutsche
Animationsfilmdrehbuch nominiert, 2012 arbeitete er an diesem Stoff innerhalb der Akademie für Kindermedien in Erfurt.
Geboren 1970. Nach Abitur von 1992
bis 1994 Grafik- und Designstudium an
der Fachhochschule Hamburg für Grafik
Design und Illustration. Bis 2001 tätig
als Layouter und Hintergrunddesigner
für verschiedene Animationsfilme und
-serien. 2001 übernahm er erstmals
die Koregie für den Animationsfilm
KOMMANDO STÖRTEBEKER. Seitdem ist Toby Genkel vorrangig
als Regisseur und Autor für Animationsfilme tätig.
Geboren 1977 in Norwegen. Studierte
Filmwissenschaft und -produktion an
der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, gefolgt von MEGA Master in Audiovisual Management an der Media
Business School in Ronda/Spanien.
2005 zusammen mit Tom Streuber
Gründung der Knudsen & Streuber Medienmanufaktur GmbH in Berlin. 2010 gründete sie zusätzlich
die Produktionsfirma Den siste Skilling AS in Bergen/Norwegen.
Kristine Knudsen ist EAVE Producer und Mitglied der Europäischen Filmakademie.
Born in Iran in 1976. Following his studies he worked as a
communications manager in Munich and a public relations
and product manager for the video games company Acclaim
Entertainment GmbH. Since his move to Berlin he has written,
directed, edited and produced various short films. RICHARD THE
STORK brought Reza Memari a nomination for the best German
animation film script at the International Cartoon Film Festival
in Stuttgart in 2009; in 2012 he worked on the material at the
Academy for Children’s Media in Erfurt.
Born in 1970. After school graduation he studied graphic art and
design at the Technical College for Graphic Design and Illustration in Hamburg from 1992 to 1994. Until 2001 he worked on
layout and background design for various animation films and
series. In 2001, he was co-director for the first time of the animation film COMMANDO STÖRTEBEKER. Since then Toby Genkel
has worked mainly as a director and author of animation films.
